Guest guest
This is from a DAN! presenter (Dr. Bradstreet): High Ammonia To treat it, follow treatment for protein maldigestion (below). Also, reduce/eliminate glutamine. Finally, use alpha keto glutaric acid, 100-300 mg, 2x/day. Treatment for Protein Maldigestion: morselation: chew food into smaller pieces, so more surface area for digestion Digestive Enzymes: options include EnzymAid, Creon, others for all meals/snacks Jody mom to -7 and -9 SCD 1/
Guest guest
I am going to post this AGAIN (and again and again, I suppose). SCD IS NOT A HIGH PROTEIN DIET!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SCD should be a well-balanced diet utilizing the myriad of allowable fruits and vegetables that are allowed on this diet. Just because some people choose to feed their children mostly protein does not make SCD a HIGH PROTEIN diet. No where does Elaine recommend eating vast quantities of meat, eggs, cheese or nuts. Fitday.com is an excellent FREE resource that parents can use to determine the status of their child's diet. I am getting really, really aggravated with the ongoing " high protein diet " talk about SCD. SCD is NOT equivalent to Atkins. SCD does NOT restrict the QUANTITY of carbohydrates. It only restricts carbohydrate choices. There are PLENTY of foods on SCD with lots of carbs. High ammonia levels should not be a factor in choosing to follow SCD. I believe that Dr. Bradstreet's recommendations are sound and that SCD can be followed WITHOUT consuming enormous amounts of protein.
