Guest guest
Debs, I also have a daily intake of prunes and lots of fruit. I find the two usually keeps me pretty regular, especially the prunes. The more pain meds I take, the more prunes I eat. It's completely natural, but very effective, at least for me it is. It's worth giving it a tty. If it's really bad, I also take a stool softener, NOT a laxative. If it's really dry and hard, using a laxative it can get stuck, but still create the " push " that laxatives give your intestines. Kinda like dry heeves in the intestine track. NOT fun. So, I got smart finally and switched to the occasional stool softener if I notice it becoming hard an bulky. Sorry, I know for some this is a ver icky topic, but when you've got the problems we've got, you have to get over that fairly quickly because most of our symptoms and problems are definitely in the ick factor. Guest guest
Debs, glad something worked. Have you tried taking other things besides prunes that have fiber? Some cereals do and out here you can buy stuff to put in a drink that has a large does of fiber in it. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@... Guest guest
Hi All, Someone had asked a few days ago a possible solution to constipation.( I deleted the thread). But I hadn't had much of a problem since my revision last fall until a month ago. Then had my first bad episode. I had used Surflac(sp?) gel tabs prior to surgery as iron has always had that effect on me. And that product always worked like a charm. After suffering for a month, I tried it again and it has again worked like a charm. One tablet at night before bed and I wake up fixed! It is a calcium compound and my PCP likes it as it is a natural remedy. If others find it helps let me know. Martha H in Ca. Guest guest
I, too have used the Walmart brand - equate - stool softeners without the laxatives. They do really work and are CHEAP! I don't use them anymore because my acupuncturist has put me on an herb that REALLY helps. It is by Sun Ten, Formula 110, Apricot Seed and Linum. It " moistens " the bowel. I have been on it for 2 1/2 years now. It is WONDERUL. No more constipation. Cecilia Cecilia soce@... Mesa, Arizona
Guest guest
Dear Karyn, I appreciated reading the details regarding constipation. They are important reminders to me. I have saved it to take to my GI should I experience any more problems. It IS important to know YOUR body. What is " normal " for one person, may not be normal for another. The key word that the docs always use is " changes. " They ask, " Have you noticed any changes in...? " A simple thing, I know, but something to be cognizant about. Cecilia Cecilia soce@...
Guest guest
Kristy~ Wow can I relate, especially in those first few weeks of finding out I was pg. See, i have IBS with constipation and was on perscription bowel medication to keep me regular. I had to stop everything once I found out I was pregnant. My OB told me it was OK to take Colace with a low dose of senna in it. I find it in tablet form at Walmart. Equate brand Stool Softner plus stimulant. I take 2 tabs 3x's a day and so far I have been pretty regular again....regular for me is going every 1-3 days. Hope this helps~ Jackie edd 7/10/04 > Hello all. Guest guest
Jackie, Regular is every 1-3 days for you? Man! That would be heaven for me! I go once a week and it takes me an hour or two to " recover " from it. (Sorry if this is too graphic) I have gone less since my WLS so becoming pregnant has not changed this pattern, though I wish it would. My sis has IBS with constipation problems and she has always wondered if I had it too, but I always attributed it to the WLS since I wasn't this way before. You would think fruit/veggies would make it better but it doesn't. Axelrod Re: Constipation Kristy~ Wow can I relate, especially in those first few weeks of finding out I was pg. Guest guest
I was having the same problem with constipation after I got pregnant. My doc put me on peri-colace, and I take the pills 3x a day, and have a normal " movement " daily. You can get pericolace over the counter now, and I get 250 in generic for about $12.99 at the pharmacy.
