Hi,

I have been on tetracycline for nearly 4 years and have noticed that now when i

take it that get a pain in my lower back, which i hope is not kidney damage. I

mentioned this to my doctor that i wanted to go on doxycycline as it does not

cause kidney damage and works relatively the same as tetracycline only that it

is not as harmful and can be taken with food. He refused to perscribe

doxycycline and instead said to keep talking tetracycline. I told him that it

was giving me a pain when i took it, and he said that it was nothing to do with

the tetracycline. I find this very strange as i only get the pain when i take

it. He never once monitored or did tests over the 4 years to see if it was

damaging my kidneys or liver. Has anyone else taking tetracycline long term been

monitored?

Has anyone advice for me please as my doctor hasn't got a clue.
