Hi everyone,

I'm new to the list and don't believe I've posted before.

My 7 year old son has Autism and has been SCD for 4 months (99.9%). I've

often read, on this list and elsewhere, that once a child is on SCD for a

period of time, they will begin choosing a much larger variety of foods.

I'm not finding that to be true with my son at all. In fact, it's almost

like he's still craving all the wheat he used to love to eat.

Early in the diet he did eat some meat and eggs, but not anymore. He will

not eat any fruits or vegetables. He does like Fruit Leathers though. He

still (as before the diet) will get on a 'kick' with a certain food and want

the same thing every day until he gets sick of it. I've always tried to at

least make him eat something different for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but

each of those meals will be repeated day after day. He recently came off of

a 2 month (breakfast only) pancake binge. All he really wants to eat now is

pizza (with nothing on it except sauce). I've caved and am letting him eat

it for lunch and dinner. Breakfast is a challenge every day. I've tried

different things and have been able to get him to eat some bacon the past

few days but he's not thrilled with that either. I can tell he still craves

wheat, especially crunchy stuff (he really misses chips, pretzels,

crackers).

Any explanations or suggestions? I'd appreciate any input at all.

Thanks,

Diane
