Guest guest
Hello, I have been here once before, but was a little gun-shy and overwhelmed initially, and did not do the diet. I know in my heart that it needs to be done, especially after another mom pointed out to me that my " carb and ketchup addicted son " would be helped by this diet. We havent even done the GFCF diet, just started that, which seems tough enough. We are now casein free for 12 days, and supplementing houston AFP enzymes with all gluten eaten. I am in the process of looking for gluten substitutes, as well as nitrate free lunch meats, etc. Snacks are the toughest, as well as juices. Our son currently drinks organic lemonade as his sole juice. The mom who turned me onto this diet says that to avoid being overwhelmed is to go slow. She first said to calm things down and start by removing dairy, which we already did. Then she said to look at this board and start by getting beneficial bacteria into his body through this diet. She mentioned kefir. I dont know what that is or how to supplement that into his diet. And, just for a brief history (we could all write pages), although our son had all the signs of autism (shy, slow to develop speech, some delays), they were SO mild that teachers, doctors and therapists all told me that he was not on the spectrum. Upon turning 4 years old, our son had an ear infection, took antibiotics and the incredible regression started. It has never gotten better since then. I honestly believe that those antibiotics caused the spiral downwards, and he has been battling yeast/bacteria ever since. I believe that gut = brain and behavior, as his gut has never been good since. Most noticibly, our son has constant scripting, repeats movies over and over and over, with a very loud voice. I truly believe gut issues. My questions are for starting out are: 1. What is kefir and how to I use it? 2. Probiotics - I have heard great things about Sac. boulardi (?), can I use this for bacterial issues? 3. What is the BEST antifungal out there...probably not an Rx kind. We are just finishing diflucan and our DAN doesnt want to use diflucan anymore. THanks everyone who responds, sorry if this is long.
