Guest guest
The stomach is severed. The stapler does this automatically. The severing is what makes it heal better and more firmly than a stomach that is just stapled. The " cut " heals and after a short while does not depend on the staples to hold. That makes it a better bet to not cause problems later. I think Dr. R said somewhere that the staples only hold about two weeks and after that the healed wound holds. That is why the care is needed the first month or two to not put pressure on your new tummy. Now, this is what I remember, but my mind has not improved with this surgery like the rest of me has improved! Ha So, I could be wrong. The " old " stomach is still viable, and can be restructured if needed. I'll bet he just redid your bypass and not your stomach. That would help a lot with the malabsorption problems.
