Guest guest
My son has been gfcf for 3 years. I limit sugar and soy, but he eats potatoes and drinks lots of rice milk. I believe he still has issues with yeast. I am considering making to leap to SCD. He has not had dairy in 3 years, so I'm a little nervous about introducing the some of the products on the legal list. But, I'd love for him to be able to have a little cheese and try the yogurt. I feel like the diet described in the book " Breaking the vicious Cycle " might actually give us more options than we have now. Anyone willing to share their experience going from gfcf to the diet in the book? GFCF has healed his gut. No more diarrhea. I believe he has Celiac's Disease, but it was never confirmed, because we did gfcf so early. Stools are always formed now, but I think yeast (and possibly bacteria) continue. Giving him Nystatin seems to have a positive effect on his behavior. I'm nearvous, but I think I might go for it! Any advice? Thanks, Amy
Guest guest
Amy, Don't let the dairy make you nervous. It's allowed on SCD, but it's not required. Start SCD with the intro diet, add foods, keep a log and in a month or two (or more) consider goat's yogurt as an option to try. Goat's yogurt has a lot of healing properties and will help with yeast and bacterial issues, but there's no rush. You don't have to start it immediately. Many of us have found that our kids do tolerate the goat's milk products even though our kids had been casein free for a long time. My older son had been casein free for 3+ years when we tried the goat's products (SCD about 9 months). I was shocked that he could tolerate it. And surprisingly my younger son who had always hated dairy products, then had been on GFCF for almost 3 years before SCD actually LIKED goat's yogurt and goat cheese. That was equally shocking. There are plenty of dairy free recipes. Lots can be found on pecanbread.com and many that have dairy in them can use other non-dairy ingredients as replacements. Welcome to the list!
