I think a bit of the arguing of diary and ASD lies in the fact that not

all ASD kids are the same...at all! There is lots of variability, so

trying to lump everyone into one theory or therapy doesn't work. The

opiate theory is just that...a theory. There are other theories and

other well-know reasons that some people do better with milk or worse

with milk. I have two spectrum kids. One had problems with dairy, but

it wasn't even close to resembling any opiate type reaction. My other

son did not have a problem with dairy. He had other problems including

bad bacteria, but not a problem with dairy. The 'every child is

different' saying is recited regularly. Maybe because I had two

different kids, I was more keenly aware of this at all times.

Add to that the fact that quite a number of ASD kids do MUCH better on

enzymes for dairy and dairy and gluten in their diet than they were

even with enzymes + dairy-free. So being dairy-free may be keeping your

ASD child in a sub-optimal health. The idea is to keep an open mind to

all options to find the best solution for each individual person.
