Nuts - feeding microbes or helping to flush them out?

Hi,

We cut out pecan nuts for 2 weeks, thinking that they might be

contributing to my son's " sour " smelling stools & feeding microbes.

Result was = his stools lessened (every 2nd day) & became harder,

BUT the smell did decrease, almost gone. However, lack of nuts lead

to a more distended tummy.

I re-added nuts & within 1 day he passed 4 " very sour " smelling

stools. This sounds bad, but I noticed an almost " mucous " looking

substance in these stools with a couple of undigested peas. I've

continued with the nuts & the " mucous " substance has disappeared,

the stools are still sour smelling, but not as bad and his

distention has reduced.

However, to aid to confusion, since he started the goat yogurt on

Saturday (still on nuts), his tummy is more distended again.

Are the nuts feeding the microbes or are they flushing them out?

Thanks
