jarred baby food

Hi everybody,

I have another question trying to implement SCD. I

have read in previous posts that commercial baby food

is SCD illegal and that most jarred or canned foods

should be avoided because they may contain some sugars

below the 6% threshold and are not mentioned in the

ingredient list.

I use Beech-Nut baby food, which doesn't list any

sugar in the ingredient list (only naturally occurring

fruit or vegetable sugars). So I contacted the

manufacturer and asked if they added anything below

the threshold and they said no, i.e. carrots are just

carrots and water and nothing else.

If this is true, would there be any other reason why

these foods are scd illegal?

Flor

I've been out of touch with the list for a long while so I'm not 100% sure that

my answer is still the standard. However, back in my day, you'd need to get that

*in writing* from the manufacturer (explaining that even a dot of added sugar

could be a health risk for your child). If the manufacturer responds in writing,

it's probably safe. Though many manufacturers are honest, Without the answer

being in writing, manufacturers can tell you anything.

Some baby food manufacturer's lie about what is in their food.

Elaine spoke specifically of a case where one company lied about it

and were prosecuted (CEO spent time in jail?). My brain is a little

fuzzy today but I think it was the beech nut baby food company.

What about the jarred organic Healthy Time baby food found at Whole Foods?

I can't imagine them putting sugar in them. It is definitely not on the

label. Everything listed is organic, too.

In my opinion, if they put it in hard copy writing after you tell them that a

dot of sugar will cause significant health problems in your child, it's probably

ok. But, cynic that I am, I bet they won't send you anything in writing
