Guest guest
Are there any major benefits to sort of following SCD but not really? I'm about to start, and my husband will eat SCD meals if he doesn't have to prepare them, and will snack on what's in the house, but will also stop and buy himself icecream and bread if he's craving it... SO, will he reap anything from the diet? I believe he's ADHD and will benefit from the reduction in sugars, if not more... Also, how far back do slip-ups put people? What are the repercussions of an oops meal? While my in-laws don't think I'm crazy for bringing along my own meals, there will come a day where I'm sure something will overpower my will... Guest guest
In order to help make SCD a success in my household, I made the whole family go SCD, which means the partner. My partner is thrilled with the benefits of SCD for my children, one with autism, and one with ASD, with cocurrent ADHD, metal poisonning, bowel problems in the youngest, etc. After getting the knack of cooking SCD, my husband has come to get used to AND enjoy the food and snacks I prepare at home. He does eat his own junkfood and stuff on the side, though. I have explained the benefits of the diet, and he has seen them in our children. I feel the best I can do is to not nag, and work on making SCD food and treats to his liking. I am concerned about him too, as he was in a highway auto accident this summer, and took pain medication for quite awhile, which I feel has destroyed his gut flora. But, he is a grown man, and I am trying to just support him, and not worry. I don't know what health problems you are experiencing, but for us, SCD is a miracle. When we go off diet, there is a regression, lost language, screaching, unawareness, eye rolling, extreme hyperactivity, echolalia, etc. Just a week ago, my oldest son, behind my back at a store, took a lollipop, and ate part of it behind my back. It caused regression, black circles under the eyes, etc. I guess the kind of regression one may experience depends on what set of problems you are treating. You cannot tell what the repercussions of an illegal food is until you are strict SCD for some time, and your problems start to clear. The reprucussion is the reoccurance of the problem you are trying to treat. For us, slip ups do happen occassionally, but the repercussions send us into a tailspin of hampered communication and malabsorption, leaving all of us sad, frustrated and confused. We look forward to the day we are healed, and it will come sooner by being strict dietary wise. Also, once sugar and junk is out of your system, it will become startling easy to adhere to SCD. Other food that is not homemade starts looking like garbage. lol Good Luck! Summer Wilkins lisawilkins@...> wrote: Are there any major benefits to sort of following SCD but not really? Guest guest
Well, your husband will certainly reap benefits from the reduction of refined sugars, preservatives, etc. Drastically reducing grains will also help his general well-being, even if he doesn't totally abandon them. Mom to Jack, 22 mos, SCD 3 weeks (or is it 4...?) > Are there any major benefits to sort of following SCD but not really? On the other hand the diet is for healing and the general public that can digest grains and other disaccharide carbohydrates does not need to follow it so your husband can certainly avail himself of the snacks you mention.
