Guest guest
Hi there, I am not sure if my son is having dye off or if he has a tummy bug. He has been fighting something for about a week now. He has been SCD since mid May. I was wondering if anyone has ever experienced thowing up with dye off? My son woke up thowing up bile this morning. He did eat a nut muffin which came back up and he had a nasty gooy loose dark brown stool this morning and just had another. He is lethargic and is drinking water with a little juice in it, and just the past hour has been able to keep 1/2 muffin down. He hasn't thrown up since this morning. I was just wondering if dye off can have this effect? If so how long does it usually last? Any thoughts would be great. His stools were looser this week and a spinach green color. Thanks!!! Guest guest
Darci, Although, we haven't experienced this, I have met a few parents that have experienced this kind of die off with their kids. It very well could be die off. I have a dear friend who has been on SCD for 7 years. She said that during die off she had the worst throw up she has ever had. But after this she was better than before the die off. (she was literally dying from Chrohn's before the diet.) Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi Darci: I am new. You need to make sure to keep him hydrated through the process, regardless of cause. Even though I don't know what all else is going on with your child, I know that lethargy can be a sign of *profound* dehydration. Plain water, and with some juice is not enough and sometimes may exacerbate the diarrhea because it has some sugars and no electrolytes. Maybe you can ask/*look for a legal electrolyte solution* to give him and mix it with a little bit of juice, not too much juice, try for it to be less than half of the total fluid, or as little as it makes him drink the solution. I say this because, when you have diarrhea, to much sugar can make it worse, even the good sugars. Also, if he can have bananas, maybe you can give him very ripe ones because you lose a lot of potassium in diarrhea and bananas have lots of that to replace, regardless of what else he gets. Keep your eyes open to any drastic changes. When he is rehyrated he should not be lethargic anymore. If you are still concerned, call your doctor. Good luck! > > Darci, > > Although, we haven't experienced this, I have met a few parents that have > experienced this kind of die off with their kids. It very well could be die > off.
