Guest guest
Hi Sandy.......You are in the USA are you not? I don't have a choice who does my surgery in Canada unless I have money, and I don't have money. Since my last posting, I heard from another doctor, who was recommended by a lady from the other on-line support group I communicate with. Same answer. He will not do the implant without me paying for it, and he will not do a capsulectomy. This is the fourth doctor I have heard from who will not perform the capsulectomy. Where are these doctors that you talk about? They certainly do not live anywhere that I can get to. Thanks for your concern, but I guess I keep my capsules, and let God take care of the rest. She does breast reconstructive surgery, as well as breast reduction. She also has experience repairing cleft lip and palate, and other reconstructive surgeries, like those necessary after burns. She is not in it for the money but to help people. She does not operate one of these fancy cosmetic plastic surgery boutiques where you go to be beautified. She does this all to help people. Because she deals with the horrors of repairing people as best she can, she does not want to unnecessarily mutilate me by removing my capsule when there is the evidence is not 100 percent certain that leaving the capsule in will do great harm. I understand where Dr. Blais is coming from, and I understand where my doctor is coming from. I have assisted in the OR with breast reduction surgery, and believe me, there is alot of bleeding, and alot of skill needed to do this surgery. All of the surgeries my doctor performs take alot of skill and heart to do. If you can think of a doctor, who would remove the capsule, that is great, but I have to go ahead and at least have the implants out. Do you realize that there may come a time in Ontario in the very near future, that the implant removal will not be covered by OHIP. I will then sit with these implants in me until the day I die. I will not have a choice but to keep them in whether they are toxic, ruptured or whatever else they happen to do. I need them out before OHIP delists this procedure. I do see that day coming. Guest guest
Hi....I am going to write one final word on this subject. Just to clarify....the word mutilate is my word. Have any of you been present during breast surgery or awake while you were having this done? If you had witnessed what was done to you during capsule removal, you would agree that it is pretty horrible. I think I am well within my right to label it mutilating when the breast is laying in pieces as in breast reduction surgery, and has to be put back together again. This is what I am referring to, not the skill of the doctor. It doesn't matter who the doctor is, during this procedure the breast looks pretty bad. All of you just see the finished product, not what it took to get it. To remove the capsule, the chest wall has to be scraped, as well as the muscle if the capsule is under the muscle. Some of the tissue will of course have to be removed. In order for a doctor to perform this on me, I would be left with very little tissue, as I am paper thin across my chest. Healing would be difficult, I am sure. My implants are intact, and the capsule is not thick, and I am a very good candidate for the capsule remaining in. I will be happy to have the implants removed, and if there are problems in the future from the capsules, I will deal with that then. In life nothing is 100 percent certain, and God is my expert. This is all I have to say as I am exhausted discussing this any further. My energy is better spent on other things at this time. Thank you for your concern. Guest guest
Dear lea: Dr. Blais called me and now I understand what you all were telling me. I am so sorry that I gave you a hard time. I have cancelled my surgery December 11, and I am starting over. There were 2 doctors recommended to me by Dr. Blais. One of them actually works out of the same hospital as the doctor who was going to do my surgery. Hopefully, his office will get back to me tomorrow. I'll let you know what happens. Thank you so, so much. Guest guest
Lea, did you see my recent entry. Dr. Blais calls me an orphan because my implant doctor won't take out my implants, and I have to fight to find somebody else to take me on. They don't want to touch me. Dr. Blais says they have this understanding amongst them the they don't touch another doctor's patient. My implant doctor won't explant under OHIP, and he won't do en bloc. I am being stonewalled by other doctors. I tried 2 today. The one also works at the London University hospital where I was booked for the surgery with that Dr. Fortin. The other is at St 's Hospital in Toronto. Doctor Blais is sending me some literature, and will even do a referral to OHIP for me if I run into problems. Who is this angel Dr. Blais? I am so scared. Thanks for your support. From: Lea <leamary@...> Sent: Thu, November 12, 2009 7:34:32 PMSubject: Re: - Capsule Removal Oh, honey, I understand, and you were not giving me a bad time. Guest guest
Honey, we have known Dr. Blais (This Angel) for almost 20 years, and he really has helped so many women. It makes me happy that he will take care of you, and you will be in the best care possible. Many years ago, he went to a hospital in Quebec, because the doctor had refused to give a lady her explanted implants. He got them, and he did the analysis right in the hospital. I, too, was an Orphan, because my plastic surgeon had left Edmonton, and no one wanted to touch me either. We found a doctor; however, he destroyed my life, because he left so much garbage in me. Please try not to be frightened, because everything will be okay, and we will always be here to give you strength, and plenty of love....Lea ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`` - Capsule Removal My question would be, why would your plastic surgeon not know what the plastic literature says about capsule removal if she is doing the surgery? Guest guest
We're here for you, . I know the feelings of panic, fear, and thinking you don't have enough support...My cancer, bilateral surgery and chemo months were shockingly challenging on a lot of levels. What those months taught me, is that help will come from unexpected sources. I would suggest you look people in the eye and tell them a short list of your current needs. Many will give you back a blank stare, but others will step up to help. Often the ones who have suffered the most in their own lives will step up to now help you through your rough patch. You'll have your own saga, but here are some things that fell to me; -Women I barely knew stepped up and lovingly shared their time. -Two male friends were faithful telephone prayer support folks. -The offered a wealth of support and brainstorming options. -I found EFT tapping free to learn on YouTube which eventually brought me to the techniques of also on YouTube. Both have websites too. Tap the top part of your chest when you feel a panic coming on. Invite peace, love, and creative thought to sustain you as you tap. I think you'll find it helpful to tap as you talk to God in prayer too. It has been a blessing in my life. -Self massage/acupressure is helpful too...feet, hands, scalp, and all over the outer ear. You'll get through this, . Keep deep breathing and make a plan. Hugs of support, M.
