Guest guest
Tracey, I have had a baby, but not cesarean.. what I hear its similar but I was told once you get home from the hospital, that you really dont need any pain meds.. since I cant speak from personal experience, you will probably hear other opinions.. I too am a baby when it comes to pain, but I feel confident that you will be kept comfortable. > Hey Everyone > Just a really stupid question. Guest guest
Tracey, I had a C-section and a Lap LG/DS. The C-Section was after 24 hours of labor and the vaginal birth of the first twin. I really feel that the c-section was worse than my DS surgery. With the c-section I was in the hospital Mon-Fri and then took pain meds a full week after discharge. Also w/ the C you have a new baby (or two) to take care of so you never really get to just relax and recover. With my lap DS I was in the hospital 2 days and stopped taking pain meds 3 days after discharge. The drugs they give you for the DS (morphine pump) are MUCH BETTER than what you get for a c-section. Discuss this with your Dr and let him/her know how nervous you are about it. Good Luck! Guest guest
I have a low threshold for pain too. I have not had a cesarean. But I did have laparascopic BPD/DS afew weeks ago. In the hospital, the pain was managed by meds. i can barely remember pain now. it was hard getting out of bed, but not really painful. After i was taken off the morphine i did the percoset every 4 hours, which is what's allowed. i had to have it first thing in the AM too. make sure they give you some applesauce with it or you may get sick. My second and third day home were the most painful. i was warned I would be in more pain once home. you are moving around a lot. I was still doing the percoset every 4 hours for those days. then i just took them at night and in the morning for 2 days. My back was killing me, so i took advil for that. that pain was HORRIBLE! i couldnt get comfy. but advil helped a lot! To be perfectly honest, the pain was worse than i thought. It is manageable with meds though. I still have pain and i am 25 days post op, but nothing i need meds for. My main problem is the waistband of pants hitting into the incisions. Oh, also, i could not wear a bra for 1 1/2 weeks post op. PAIN, PRESSURE. But, it's all worth it. I swear!!!! life is so much better now. i am down 30 lbs and it make such a huge difference to my quality of life! I went walking all over NY city yesterday. before i could barely walk down the hall. Take care. Jill k in NY __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Tracey: First, everyone is different. No one person's experience will necessarily be yours. Obviously I haven't had a C-section. But my wife has. I just asked her. She says that very short term the DS was less painful because she had an epidural. But when they took the epidural out they didn't manage the pain very well and things went downhill VERY fast. So intermediate and long term the DS hurt her worse. But not so badly that she is sorry she did it. Also, there seems to be a natural process which tends to make women forget about the pain involved in childbirth. I don't know if that applies to a C-section or not, but it certainly doesn't apply to a DS. Hope that helps. Guest guest
Cass, Hi,hope your doing well. In my case I have severe scarring, one area is about the size of a golfball and pushing in the direction of my duodenum. As a result my duodenum is obstructed 80%. I'm sure it adds to the pain. Guest guest
Cass- My pain is in the same place as your pain and the fibrosis and damage to my pancreas is in the tail of my pancreatitis. This was discovered at the Mayo. At the Mayo they also discovered that I have steatohepatitis (fatty liver) which they said was caused from the pancreatitis. Guest guest
Bruce, I use duragesic patches. I also have loritab and oxy for breakthrough pain. The duragesic patch is wonderful. The pain doesn't get out of control just because you fall asleep. You have a continuous dose of medication being absorbed through the skin. Guest guest
My gut symptoms actually got some better almost immediately. I'm talking about body pain, spinal is the worst, some headaches, and it seems to be making more arthritic type pain as well. Sort of everything is worse in the pain department except gut pain. I think your idea of gut bacteria shifting makes a lot of sense. I am not sure what you mean.. but my pain increased dramatically when I first dropped grains and then it was the first thing to go away.. I was dealing with excruciating bowel and anal pain. Are you talking about gut pain or like body pain? Many things can be attributed to die off. I like the idea of a more global view that the gut ecology is shifting. Yes, bacteria is dying but there are also bacteria repopulating and many are shifting.. Than there is the issue of biofilms that we need to get rid of. I think some of us that deal with hard core stubborn yeast are dealing with a biofilm issue. The housing structures that the yeast live in.. actually live on post die-off.
