The first time we 'did SCD' was for a seven week trial last year

(late spring). I saw zero changes in stool/behavior/affect so I gave

it up. (we had been GFCFSFCFYF, no refined anything, rotation,

Feingold-compliant, low phenol/salicilytes for four months by then,

and went back to the same after trial).

Digestive enzymes lessesed the number of stools Glenn was having

to some degree (introduced Oct2004), but not form or appearance

(volumnious, runny, way too light). Some enz can be anti-

pathogenic...

Is his behavior still good despite the D? I restarted SCD this

winter because of astronomically high anaerobic gut bact levels (no

parasites and " only " a 2+ for yeast, but several 4+ for pathogens

(though his probiotic strains did show up, but weakly).

We did a round of Diflucan, Flagyl and Nystatin (wiped

everything - good labs since - with a LOT of support).

So, you have a 'puzzle piece'! That's great! This was the main

reason I had initially posted about organic foods some pages back.

It is ABSOLUTELY VITAL for my son that he have NO extra burden for

his body to process. And, after over a year of pretty restrictive

dietary intervention with only one infraction (accidental - to which

we had a horrible response) we had THIRTY-NINE IgG reactive foods.

Nearly everything he ate. He was also developing ezcema.

After the round of meds, and the pathogen burden knocked back, I

restarted SCD keeping account of his IgG intolerances (I eliminated

everything over 1+, and kept the 1+ items only on a once-a-week

basis. Still using rotation. I plan to retest IgG in several months

to see if the number has lessened.

This means that we do SCD no dairy, no beans, no nuts, no

seeds, no citrus, limited fruits and honey. Legal foods he just

can't handle. (PB for supps - no reactive IgG for that). I also

started fish oil (not CLO). Within five days, his ezcema was gone.

Within two weeks we were down to two poops a day, better 'color' and

formation (we also started milk thistle...non SCD but works for us).

Within a MONTH we are where we are now; usually one stool per day,

sometimes two. Much more consistent quality (Pre-2nd SCD he used to

be great for a while and then get worse again, and I could never

pinpoint causality). It has enabled him to get potty-trained as

well - he could never control the loose stool before - made training

impossible.

However, recently I had been reading a bit more about the LOD

(low oxalate diet); and I realized that many of the allergens I had

removed from Glenn's menu were relativly high in oxalates, compared

to what he is eating now. Perhaps that may be worth looking into as

well....? (there is a new yahoogroup about this aspect of

diet..TryingLowOxalates).

Hope some of that helps...I know there are a lot of kiddles who

do not tolerate supplements (I do all of ours single dosing now -

more time consuming, but easier to swich out or adjust if nec). More

cost-effective too).

good luck!
