Guest guest
Dear Dee, I know that this is agonizing for you but Dr Rutledge is looking out for your best interest. I am in some what the same boat. I have had elevated sed. rates for several years as well as other symptoms of inflammatory arthritis ( fevers, joint pain, etc.). Till recently I was taking Methotrexate, Prednisone, Plaquinal, and Celebrax. These medications are strong and have differing effects on the body. I am sure that he wants to be sure that the meds you take will not disturb the healing process. With oral medications there is the possibility of ulcers but even if they meds are given intravenously their side effects could inhibit function of the body on a cellular level. It is best to have a plan approved by your Rheumatoid doctor before preceding. Maybe you could get by on less meds. Do you test positive for the RH factor? I haven't, my doc says I am a difficult case. I made a decision a couple of weeks ago to see how little of the meds I could get by on. I stopped the methotrexate injections as well as the prednisone ( I was only taking 2.5) I haven't had any flares and am thanking God for it. I am not suggesting that you quit any of your meds. But so far it is working for me. Meanwhile I am going to complete my packet and wait to see my response. I am hoping that I can go ahead with the surgery and am well enough to get the surgery off and then if I really need the meds I could have a reversal if necessary. I hope this isn't a pipe dream. I hope all goes well for you and please keep in touch. in Jax., Fla
