Guest guest
Dear Joann, So sorry to hear of your struggle and losing your last appeal. I know we get all psyched up for Dr R and his procedure, it is hard to think of going to anyone else, but others have had to do it and have come out ok. Shari in CA comes to mind, although I think she had a lap procedure. I think another lady, maybe Dolores (??), had an RNY too and is ok. Do you have diabetes? If so, maybe you can talk the in-network Dr. into a referral to Dr R, who does the MGB laparoscopically. It is a much better procedure for diabetics, because it is much less invasive and there is less risk of infection and better & faster healing, which is a concern for us diabetics. Plus it has so many other advantages. I will keep you in my thoughts & prayers. Best of luck to you in whatever you work out for yourself based on your needs and circumstances. Guest guest
Joann, I'm so sorry. Don't despair, you might have lost the fight for Dr R, but at least your insurance company isn't giving you a hard time about having WLS in the first place. Things could be worse. Dr R is within Network for me, the hospital is one of the approved ones on my list and they denied the procedure (in appeal as we speak). But they paid my clinic fee, go figure! If you trust this in-network physician, and he has a great track record, then rest assured you are also in good hands. Deloris and Shari in CA can attest that the RNY is a very viable option for you. Don't they perform it under the laparascope where you live? Your insurance is willing to pay for an open (i.e. expensive) procedure and won't pay for Dr R's laparascopic? That is unbelievable.......that's like the difference between $14,000 and $30,000. It doesn't make sense, but what about insurance ever does. I have many friends who have had the open RNY, and they are doing fine. I know you wanted to choose the MGB, and for good reason, but at least you are approved. Chin up girl, you're still going to be skinny next year. :-) I was talking to a friend of my mom's tonight who'd had open RNY in 1997 and she's lost 250lbs. Another friend of mine weighed in at 635 (2 years ago) and now weighs 195. So, rest assured, it will be successful for you!! < > I will say a prayer that you find your way to the other side safely. :-) fg > >Hi everyone, I wanted to give congratulations to all the new post-ops and >pre-ops.
