Guest guest
Good morning, Mika: My infectious diseases specialist did test me for heavy metals many yeas ago. He did the testing through blood work, and I am not sure that I still have the medical report. My might remember, but there is another possibility that I might have scanned it for the group. Honey, if I find it, I will send it to you...love always...Lea ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~```` Metal toxicity testing After a long hiatus, I'm back with a question:Does anyone know what is the best way to test for heavy metal toxicity, one that could result from long term implants? The naturopath I know wants to do a chelation challenge test, but those have a very bad reputation among the mainstream medical doctors. There are no guidelines for evaluating the test and the test could be harmful if one didn't need it to begin with. Did anyone have this test, or a non-challenge urine or hair test and can comment?Thank you in advance,Mika.
Guest guest
Thank you Lea, I do remember reading through someone's blood report showing elevated levels of many metals, but also can't find it right now. I'm mostly making sure that the heavy metal test that my naturopath wants to do (chelation) will not give me more health problems than I already have. :-) Thank you for your support! Guest guest
There is something called a 'lymphocyte sensitivity test' done by a lab in the UK that might be useful. It is called MELISSA here in North america but not sure which lab provides the test here. I'm trying to get more information to see if it will pick up metals that have settled into tissues. > > > > Good morning, Mika: > > > > My infectious diseases specialist did test me for heavy metals many yeas ago. Guest guest
I looked it up at http://www.melisa.org/ and it looks like a good test. I'll mention it to my naturopath. Thus far he's done a 'Biological Terrain Assessment' which combines results from blood, urine and saliva samples. I do have a pronounced heavy metal toxicity pattern according to this test. I think that the chelation urine test is done so that the metals are pushed out of the tissues and into the urine. Not sure how accurate it is as a test, objectively speaking. I think it is better as a treatment itself. Mika. > > > > > > Good morning, Mika: > > > > > > My infectious diseases specialist did test me for heavy metals many yeas ago. Guest guest
Hi Mika, When I was first ill and saw my first naturopath (after the traditional docs blew me off), he wanted to test me for heavy metals. I agreed, not knowing much about any of this stuff at all. I had a urine challenge test, using a DMPS shot. It was a one time shot to see what I was dumping in my urine. I collected my urine for 24 hours and then sent in a sample of it. It came back showing heavy in several metals, such as aluminum and mercury and arsenic. Then he started me on DMSA for the mercury chelation and those were pills. Later, I read about the dangers of DMPS. Apparently there can be some damage if the heavy metals are moved around in your body in large quantity and the body has a hard time detoxing it all. I would have to say based on my experience that the one time shot was not detrimental to me, as far as I know. But if I was asked to do it again, I am not so certain I would do it without reservation. I believe you can test for heavy metals through a hair sample, and I would probably choose that over the DMPS shot if the option was offered. The biggest question, of course, is which test is most accurate? I don't know if that helps you or not, but I did have the DMPS shot and survived! Let us know what you decide to do and what the outcome is. I believe heavy metals can be an issue for many people, especially those of us who had implants, since metals are used to solidify the silicone gel. Best wishes, Patty > > After a long hiatus, I'm back with a question: > Does anyone know what is the best way to test for heavy metal toxicity, one that could result from long term implants? > > The naturopath I know wants to do a chelation challenge test, but those have a very bad reputation among the mainstream medical doctors. Guest guest
Mika, You are right about the chelation urine test. They do the challenge to see what metals are being dumped, and this gives an idea of what burden there is in the body.
