Guest guest
Is there any studies out there proving leaky gut? How about antiboitic overuse? I need something in BLACK & WHITE to use to try to explain it to my husband and his side of the family. By the way, since the in-laws already came and blatantly disreguarded anything I said about Kali's diet and disrupted her routine and such, I have decided not to bring Kali to NJ for Thanksgiving and not to go myself. We need 200% compliance here so she can heal and this is just getting rediculous. I am on a mission to save and recover my daughter's life here and have only been devoting 100% of the time to her recovery and am working with the VP of the TAAP organization to help with awareness. And, they don't want me to get angry....Or I will use it for fuel on this fire! I feel like this is a war with getting my baby to talk and to be healed and if that's what it takes...Anyway, thanks to all who have helped me talk my way through this one!! And also, NO MORE MCD'S CHIX NUGGETS!!! Jenn & Kali 6 months scd

I need something in BLACK & WHITE to use to try to explain it to my husband and his side of the family. Hi, You could try PubMed, or google and look up things like IBS, Crohn's disease, celiac sprue, pancreatic enzyme DPP-4, lactase deficiancy, IgG or any term in BTVC that sounds " science-y " enough for your family. Wikipedia has some neat stuff. Also, " Enzyme Stuff " website. There is a great article called " Altered Immunity and Leaky Gut Syndrome " by Zoltan P. Rona MD, MSc as well (found that on google a while back). You'll run out of printer paper before you run out of things to show them from just a few simple searches. Also, hit the IMAGE search on google, and look at the Chrohn's, ulcerative colitis, celiac pix - heartrending, really. If you have a color printer, it's really an effective tool with these images; 'picture worth 1,000 words', and all that. The important thing for you (and them) to remember, is that while you would love to have their understanding and support, it is not required. And that you would love to help them understand, you are not going to spoon-feed them, either. Your main focus is your daughter - not educating people who are not motivated as you are. We had a recent (minor) 'mismeeting of the minds' at Glenn's school regarding SCD and his dietary REQUIREMENTS (btw, don't say " dietary restrictions " . Restricting your child from eating the junk that most people feed their children is NOT a punishment, IMHO). I wrote them a letter explaing Glenn's basics, and supplied them with articles and pix (like I mentioned in the first paragraph), and pretty much said that in the interest of helping people to understand what we were doing, I'd be more than happy to supply info. When one of the staff made a comment that belied the fact that she hadn't read anyhting I'd sent, I told her that the it was not my job to defend my position (we have a good IEP), it was HER job to uphold that legal document, and that understanding was not contingent on compliance. That shut her up; nicely, but effectively. So, you might try the same tact with the family (if there is not too much water under the bridge). If they are REALLY interested, great! You will supply them with more info. If they are not, well, that's fine too (nobody can microanalyze this like a parent, lol). But it is ON THEM to do what YOU WANT with YOUR CHILD. They don't have to understand to comply. Keep that in mind when you offer your info...sometimes people " who know best " can see initial overzealousness as weakness. Unfortunate, but true. Sorry so long...gee, my soapbox is worn out, lol. BTW, we have no problems with school, and we have never had an issue with family. Lots of q's, but no resistence.
