Guest guest
Here are some additional suggestions for those with lupus symptoms:From "Natural Hormone Balance for Women" by Uzzi Reiss, MD/OB-GYNp. 196Poor ImmunityAnimal and human studies indicate that DHEA can reinforce the immune system. It significantly improves the antibody response to vaccinations in the elderly. That means more protection. It also has the potential to reduce lupus symptoms among female patients. A 1994 study by Stanford University researchers on women with mild to moderate systemic lupus erythematosus demonstrated for the first time that DHEA supplementation might be effective in the treatment of an autoimmune disease. Their results included a lessened severity and frequency of rashes, joint pain, headaches, and fatigue. Lupus is a chronic inflammatory illness that can lead to damage of the kidneys, nervous system, joints and skin.In this study, the researchers used 200 mg daily for up to six months. That's a level of DHEA that my patients do not tolerate. However, I do not treat lupus. Perhaps individuals with this condition can tolerate much higher doses than healthier patients. Whenever I see patients with lupus I encourage them to mention this study to their rheumatologists. Unfortunately the specialists tends to show litte interest in DHEA.p. 211Pregnenolone appears to have very promising applications for stress, connective tissue, and degenerative disorders. Specifically, it may offer major benefits against chronic fatigue syndrome, arthritis, lupus, ulcerative colitis, and inflammatory bowel disorders.Patty's notes:In reading further, from several sources, it is recommended that when you take bio-identical hormones, you should try to take forms that by-pass the digestive system. This is because when the hormone is taken through the stomach, it will first be broken down by the liver and you will not get the true benefits of the dosage. DHEA creams are available, and this is the preferred method of obtaining DHEA.Pregnenolone is available by sublingual tablets, and this is my preferred method of obtaining pregnenolone.Patty
