Guest guest
Hi this is Ann in Oklahoma Yes You have to remove them before surgery. The surgical nurse said it was because they need to see the color of the nail beds. The color doesn't come through the fake nails. I have worn mine for 20 years and felt " neked " with out them but it was a small price to pay for better health. Guest guest
Sher, Pink is correct, clear nail polish doesn't affect an oximeter's ability to get a reading. Neither to most light transluscent colors. What does affect it is dark and opaque shades. That's per my pulmo at Duke and all the respiratory techs at my rehab. They never asked me to remove my nail polish even when I offered to if it was necessary. I'm going by what my paperwork said to do...don't wear any kind of polish. I'm sure you are used to YOUR oximeter by now however. Have a good weekend. MamaSher; 70, IPF 3-06, OR. Guest guest
MB-- I'm so glad to hear this. I used to wear acrylics also and quit (cold turkey lol)...My mothers pulmo advised her to not wear any nail polish and so when I went on 02 I " assumed " I couldn't either. I'm glad I can now go back to at least painting these ugly clubbed nails. Maybe a little spit shine will help them not look so ugly! Guest guest
Roxanne, I only use clear or the very pale shades or a french manicure. Once when I was in rehab and I questioned whether the oximeter was accurate on my french manicured nails the nurse put an oximeter on my finger and a different type on my earlobe and the readings were identical. She looked at me and said, "SEE, Now do you believe me"? Guest guest
I was told the red polishes and any of the dark colors sometimes cause a problem. I put a clear on mine and they are so bulbed they just didn't look right so I just imagineI have my LONG RED nails...
