Hi,

Since hearing discussion about writing letters to children before surgery to

explain everything, and hearing talk about making sure her husband

knows her wishes, I also wanted to remind everyone to complete a Living Will.

This is a legal document that indicates your wishes for treatment in the

event that you are unable to say. I am not sure about Durham Regional, but

at the hospital I work for, we routinely ask every patient above 18 if they

have a Living Will, and if they do not, we offer to help them complete one.

As a nurse, I routinely offer this service and find it widely underused.

Like my mom said, we should always hope for the best and prepare for the

worst! Congrats to all the new approvals and pre-ops!!!

Tara
