Hi there, my name is Becky and I had saline implants put in exactly 5 years ago Today(4/05)I, like many of the ladies on here (within a year) began to feel kinda "ill" or sick or just generally not healthy like I had a cold that I couldn't really shake. Then came the body aches and extreme fatigue. All I did/all I felt like doing was staying in bed all day and night. This was aweful cuz My daughter was a preteen at the time and I feel I should have been there more for her. I started losing a disgusting amount of weight about a year after that-I'm 5'5" and I was close to 109lbs.(I'm normally 125lbs)I kept getting mysterious bruises all over My body, my skin hurt I had GI problems and GERD was an understatement. I had Extreme panic attacks ontopof everything else and intense migraines. I eventually stopped driving and then leaving the house all together, I was devistated!! ! I used to be So animated and flamboyant, I was Always the life of the party...I began to feel like an empty shell of Myself. It wasn't until the winter of '08 that my PCP found a lump on my right breast between my nipple and armpit. I had a sonogram done, a mammogram and an MRI they couldn't figure it out!!! Finally I realized it was on the other side too but in a different place!!! We looked up my implants- McGhan 68hp, it was the valve!!! Some how they shifted on both sides!!! After realizing this an the fact My right breast was all squashy after the mammo, I saw my plastic surgeon, they said my breasts looked perfectly fine and nothing was wrong and even took photos to compare to the original pix, I still saw a difference, they blew me off. The right on was clearly lower! After a few more months went by the REAL pain started- anytime I would reach right to left I felt a tearing/ripping feeling in my chest, after that things started to escalate into joint pain an stiffness I get electrical shock pains that shoot through my knees and radiate up an down my legs, I've been losing hair nonstop and finally my PCP ran blood work and my cpk count was increased a little bit more than double the normal/high range, I now have an appt. To see a rhuematologist to try to find out if I have fybromialgia but I jus was these things taken out!!! Guest guest
Becky ~ Welcome to the group ! I am so sorry you are going through all this. It just isnt right that they keep doing this to people.... There are enough sick people from implants for them to start taking care of people properly, and by all means teach people the truth and what to look for...... I am so glad you found us ! Feel free to write all you want to, ask all the questions you come up with, and know we are here for you. Where do you live ? We have a list of doctors that know how to remove them properly. It is important that you have them removed enbloc mainly because you dont want any of the contents of your breasts to be dumped into your chest wall. Saline is not steril for ever. We have one gal that had her implants removed after 9 months and her implants were speckled in mold and other toxins inside, we have photos in the photo section showing saline filled silicone implants with all kind of nasty stuff in them........some doctors want to empty the implants then remove the shells.... YOU DO NOT want to do it this way........enbloc is where they cut around the scar capsule and remove it scar tissue and all, in one lump sum ! ! then use drains so that the fluid and all drains out of you. Take care, and again Welcome to the group ! Dede New to this Support Group- SO relieved I'm Not Alone!!!! I could only really see them on My legs as I am pretty heavily tattooed(My arms and calves are completely covered)I could still "feel" them on My arms though- I tried taking vitamin C suppliments and that didn't really help, the bruises jus kinda went away one day but My boyfriend noticed them just recently(not as bad)about 6 wks ago- they went away a Lot quicker this time, that was nice, but My skin still "hurts" and My joints feel So stiff and they hurt So much and I'm so fatigued and totally weak now I just feel useless How long have You had Your implants and are You having any other symptoms? Guest guest
Hi, Becky I had my implant for 11 years and I started having symtoms since my 8th year. I had bruising problems since then which comes and goes. I sometimes get bruise on my breast, but mainly arms and legs. It comes and goes. Also, since last year all of sudden things started to get really worse and I have serious Gerd, which resulted in loss of about 10 lbs, indigestion, IBS, insomnia, headaches, dizziness and fatigue. I couldn't even walk from my office to the parking lot, which is not even one block without getting breathless which was new to me. I really thought I was dying. I've always been so healthy and never went to the hospital. I have been to so much doctors and they said there is nothing wrong...so they conclude that it's depression. I took vitamins, health foods and everything and didn't help. Finally, I stopped going to the doctors and went to the acupuncturist and after 5 months of treatment I am almost normal. However, if I stop the acupuncture all the symptoms comes back slowly. I started to connect that it may be my breast implant that's causing this. I then researched and found this site and was able to figure it out finally! I had endoscopy done and found I had h. pylori and had to take antibiotics. Your gerd could be caused by bateria too so have it checked out. When you have gerd your stomach flora gets all messed and you cannot absorb nutrition well so you end up losing weight and also feel really weak due to lack of nutrition. This in turn causes all kinds of health problems including bruises. You may want to have your stomach checked out. I am beginning to think that having implant may lower immunity so we end up having more bateria and other bad things in our system, which in turn makes us weak and sick. Since you cannot have the implant removed right away are you eating healthy and exercising etc.? Every thing that you can do to keep yourself healthy will help until you get your implant out. I am currently researching to have my implant out also. I plan to get it out before this year. Guest guest
Hi Becky, Welcome to this group! I wish you didn't have to be here, because that means you are suffering. And your story tells it all...you have suffered greatly and I have no doubt that your implants are to blame. I wanted to share my experience with a rheumatologist...because I don't want you to get your hopes up about them. Of course, you may end up with a very good doctor, but in the end, rheumatologists offer no help other than to make your life more comfortable WITH a disease, rather than find a solution to the root cause of the disease. My rheummy did not believe that the implants had anything to do with my illness, and not only that, but he blew my abnormal bloodwork off and told me to stop taking my vitamins!!!! Needless to say, I stopped going to him, and chose a naturopathic doctor instead, who treated me with understanding and kindness and offered help that I could accept. I choose natural therapy over drugs every time I can. In order to get your implants removed properly, you will need to search out a very good explanting doctor. We caution women against using their original surgeon, mainly because the original surgeon has an investment in their work, and usually downplays any illness. Mine did. I went to a recommended surgeon for explant instead and was very happy with my care. We have a list of surgeons, so please be sure to check it out. It is not all inclusive, and in fact is old enough to probably have some errors, but it is the best we can do under the circumstances. However, there are 4 surgeons in the USA that we recommend highly, because they understand our illnesses. These are: Dr. Lu Feng, Cleveland OH Dr. Kolb, Atlanta, GA Dr. Huang, Denver, CO Dr. Ed Melmed, Dallas TX I honestly don't know what we are going to do when these doctors retire because there are so few coming up behind them who understand the nature of our illnesses and the need for en bloc/total capsulectomy removal. These doctors have been involved enough in the controversy over implant safety to know that it takes courage to stand with us and our illnesses. So, proper removal requires the complete removal of not only the implant, but the capsule around it as well. We have articles in our explant folder that will help guide you through this process. Please ask questions! We are here to help! Guest guest
Becky, There are many women who have been in your shoes regarding the finances with implants...most women who face explant are never prepared for it. They have no savings, and they certainly didn't suspect that they were ill from implants to begin with, so they never thought about having to remove them. So, you have been in good company! I know that doesn't help...but the truth is that many women find a way to pay for it somehow. They sell cars, sell assets, tap into retirement savings, borrow from friends or family, take out a loan, sell things on Ebay, one person even got into breeding dogs to pay for explant. When there's a will, there's a way. One thing is for sure...those implants need to come out in order for your immune system to have a good chance at recovery. And then you will need to get into a very concentrated detox program that you can do at home yourself, in order to start getting your immune system back in shape. Autoimmunity is not cureable, it is said. But there are lots of books available out there that tell the stories of people who 'cure' themselves by detoxing and adopting a different diet or lifestyle. I have just finished reading a book called, " The LUPUS Recovery Diet " and it is very obvious that what we put in our mouths has a huge bearing on how we feel. You can overcome many illnesses through restricting what you put in your body for fuel. Food allergies that were not there before are a common problem with implanted women. We suddenly develop strange responses to things we never had issues with before. You can learn to listen to your body and realize when you are having a reaction. The most common allergens are wheat, eggs, dairy, corn, nuts, chocolate, and foods with gluten. I hope this helps you...you have some decisions to make and some planning to do! But we've all been there before. YOu are not alone. I've heard of it helping other women, but it is not a cure I guess...just helps with symptoms? Guest guest
Hi, Patty It alleviates lot of symptoms. Sometimes it is permanent, but sometimes it is not. In order to treat it permanently you'd need to take herbs + moxa + acupuncture. It's really herbs that will cure permanently. However, after surgery acupuncture will help to heal faster. It signals brains to release more chemicals and puts our body in balance so that our immune system works better. This is why I started to feel normal again. No doctor was able to help me so I tried acupuncture and it worked. However, I think if I stop completely I may get the symptoms back so I have to do maintenance periodically. Initial treatment you go 2-3 times a week then phase it out to once a week then phase it out to once a month and just do maintenance. Without it I'd still be in bed unable to work. Because I got such great results, I am currently attending school to learn more about acupuncture and it is great! It is natural and holistic method. These doctors have been involved enough in the controversy over implant safety to know that it takes courage to stand with us and our illnesses. So, proper removal requires the complete removal of not only the implant, but the capsule around it as well. We have articles in our explant folder that will help guide you through this process. Guest guest
Becky....... When you see the doc, tell them how much your breasts hurt..... and about all the symptoms you have related to pain.....and how all the pain makes you so tired......and non-functional. As long as the doctors say implants dont do anything then go thru the other aspect....the medical aspect that something is causing you great incapicitating pain, and beg them to go in and explore in there.....and while they are at it, to remove anything in there that doesnt belong there naturally. It should be covered..... Best wishes in your journey ! Dede Re: Re: New to this Support Group- SO relieved I'm Not Alone!!!! Guest guest
Good Morning, Dr. Tan: Thank you for helping to give information to our group, because we all appreciate it so much. Are you aware that many women have developed Multiple Myeloma (MM) from having breast implants? We have lost several women to this cancer, and I am positive for MGUS, which means that I could eventually end up having MM. I am on blood thinners, and that causes me to bruise at times; therefore, I am not to have too much vitamin K. All women should be tested for MGUS if they have breast implants. The tests are SPEP and UPEP, and my doctors check me every few months to make sure that I am okay. I would not want to frighten anyone; however, it is important that every woman should be aware of this cancer. Dr. Aristo Vojdani did the research on the risk of MM and silicone breast implants. I am one of the older group leaders here in Canada, and Dr. Vojdani sent out a letter to all group leaders regarding this rare cancer. Many of the women in our groups here are positive for MGUS, and that is a concern for me. Guest guest
My Dear : Honey, I do not want to frighten you; however, it might be a good idea to have these two tests. The UPEP test is a 24 hour urine collection, and the SPEP is just some bloodwork. I know that the research showed that some of the women who had silicone implants were at risk; however, I never looked at the saline implanted women, because we thought that saline was a safe implant....wrong. I am so happy that you are helping other women, because you are so loving and you have been through the explant. How are you feeling, because I thought that I saw a message from you a few weeks ago? I hope that you are feeling better. is writing a course for the university, and he must have solitude. That course is killing us both...but he will be a bit more famous when he has finished writing it. I have to read each unit as he writes it, and I am not into history, but another set of eyes could catch a mistake. I KNOW from what I have read that they are the cause of this an I don't mean to carry on, but without sites like this, I NEVER would have made this terrifying connection! Thank You SO Much Everyone and God Bless You ALL!!!Becky Be smarter than spam.
