(He > is on Pentasa.) I can't tell you about the c-reactive proteins or the physician, but perhaps you could ask about sulfasalazine rather than Pentasa. There is information about it from Elaine on her website. I know over the years of living with CD, sulfasalazine is a far more effective maintenance drug, and it could help be a substitute in coming off of the steroids, since you are refusing Imuran. It has far more side-effects and is more dangerous, and many people are intolerant to it, so that is why the 5ASA's were developed. But I know at Stanford, it is the preferred daily anti-inflammatory, and I have tried every 5 ASA out there and experienced far greater success with sulfasalazine. It's just a thought.
