Guest guest
My kids have been SCD for 14-15 months now and we decided to take them out for a meal today. This is something that's been difficult to do in the past because of bad behavior, etc. Their behavior has improved so much with the diet that we decided to do a " trial run " and see how it would go. Like a conscientitious mom, I packed my kids meal and informed the waitress that we brought the kids' food because they have food allergies and are on a very special diet. What followed was very embarrassing for me and my husband. Within a few minutes after being seated, the waitress came back with the manager informing us that the city health department wouldn't allow their customers to bring in any food from the outside - baby food, birthday cakes for celebrations, or any food for any reason. The reason cited was the possible risk of contamination with food brought in from the outside. The manager said that if the health department were to do an inspection and find outside food then she would be subject to a huge fine. It turned out that the manager did allow us to feed our kids the food from home today because it was a Saturday but next time we can't do this. There was no way I was going to take a chance and allow them to prepare food for my kids without a lot more preparation. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? It was SO embarrassing and so disheartening for us. Thanks for any insight anyone can render. Eileen (mom to and , SCD 15 mos)
