Hi!

My name is Ronni...and I am in desparate need of some help. I have

3 special needs kids and I am about to lose my mind.

We have been gf/cf for over 3 years and I have tried enzymes to try

and help them have some sort of diet....they take so many supps that

it is amazing.

I have tried many diets and adjustments and and and.... One of my

friends reccommended this group...so here I am.

What do I do first and where do I start and how.... Are there any

good books that I can get and read and learn from. I was looking at

the list of foods that were on the nono list..and that is pretty much

what my kids eat....the diet that they eat is very limited and we all

hate it... saw peacanbread.com but am not sure where to go first and

how to do this....

Here is what we can have so far.....I say we as several of us have

gut issues...so most of the family is on the same diet.

Meat

Chicken..turkey...that's about it

Grains

Oats

tapioca

potato starch

guar and xanthum gum..

Veggies

Cauliflower

few carrots

few peas

few green beans for some...bad legume problems.

few tomatoes

Nuts

none

fruits

apples

pears

I have learned to be creative and manage to feed them as well as I

can...but it is getting harder and harder...

Any help you can toss me would be greatly appreciated... this mom is

tired and very frustrated...

Thanks

Ronni

Hi Ronni,

Welcome to the group!

A good place to start is by reading the information on pecanbread.com

and getting the book, Breaking the Vicious Cycle, by Elaine Gottschall.

The information contained in those two resources should get you off to

a good start with the diet. Plus, we'll be here to help you too.

With the foods that you listed, are those the only foods your kids

WILL eat or the only ones that they CAN eat?

Do they have any true food allergies?

The first step is to read the book " Breaking the Vicious Cycle " . It's very

short and easy to read, and does a great job of explaining this diet, and

why it works.

Stay with this group, and you'll learn alot just by reading the messages.

You'll start SCD by following an intro diet for a few days. You'll be on

your way in no time.

Welcome to the list here Ronni! I want to second the advice Marilyn gave you,

and I want to repost a post a member named Sam made from the Yasko and SCD

thread. Looking at the list of foods you provided, it seems to me that SCD may

be particularly suited to your family, as many of the foods on the list are

notorious bad gut bug feeders, and these bugs are responsible, in large part, to

limited eating choices and intense cravings if certain foods. SCD is about

healing the digestive tract. Here is Sam's post, as he states everything

clearly. Basically, read BTVC, and aquaint yourself for what the diet is doing.

Health and Happiness to you in this New Year!

>>>Jody, if I may, I would like to add some personnel experience that would

most likely help some new individuals on this email list. The specific point

that helped me the most, was obtaining a broad understanding of the

principles behind the SCD program!!

As I look back when starting the SCD program (information for my grandson

and for me). a lot of my questions and misunderstanding would not existed if

I had initially focused on understanding the overall objective and reasoning

behind the SCD program, instead of starting into the details of the program

right away. As I read the many questions by new individuals, I suspect most

are lost in the details and thus are trying to accomplish the program by

rote instead of by being guided what the SCD program is all about. I can

understand that most people want to get started right away, but as we all

know, whether it is the SCD program or some professional project, we need a

firm foundation to support any initial and long term success.

So for the new people who come to this list, strongly recommend that you

read the " book " numerous times and you will find the answers to many of your

questions and a clearer road to success with the SCD program. The " book " is

the foundation and so this email list is primarily supportive of the book

and is not a substitute for the " book. "

I do have some concern about this list and the individuals who the provide

the outstanding knowledge and information in support of it. This list is no

different than many of the other email lists that I and others have visited

and then watched as " burn out " slowly settled in. We need to be careful and

considerate and not contribute to burn out of these kind and compassionate

individuals who so ably support this email list. By the way, I am in no way

suggesting valid questions be curbed, but only those that can be readily

answered in the " book. " Best wishes, Sam.<<<
