Controlling Hormone Levels Via Diet

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2513969/controlling_hormone_levels_via_diet.html?cat=5

For people suffering minor hormonal imbalances or entering into menopause, a restructuring of diet may be in order. Many foods have been found to influence hormonal metabolism in the body, in both positive and negative

ways. Eliminating those components with an opposite effect of what you're trying to achieve, and incorporating nutrients with the desired effect can lead to a higher quality of life without the use of pharmaceuticals (or, perhaps a lower dose). Use the following information to tailor a diet to suit your needs. First up are those foods that increase estrogen levels (especially important for those entering perimenopause or all ready experiencing menopausal symptoms). Soy tops this list due to its phytoestrogen content. These plant estrogen analogs remain metabolically active even after ingestion. Additionally, soy contains omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown to reduce the severity of hot flashes. (1)

Peanuts also increase the amount of circulating estrogen. This is due to their high boron content, which is a key component of several hormones. (2) On the other hand, women with a genetic predisposition for breast cancer may have too much estrogen. There are several foods that can actually lower the levels of this hormone. Both wheat bran and cruciferous vegetables fit into this category. (2) Cabbage, brocoli, cauliflower, and other cruciferous veggies assist in the livers breakdown of estrogen and other hormones. It's also a good idea to limit meat and dairy consumption, or to look for brands that certify their products as hormone free. Several foods have been shown to affect thyroid hormone levels. Whereas soy helps to increase estrogen levels, it has the opposite affect on thyroid hormones.

Other foods that fall into this category are cruciferous vegetables, millet, peanuts, strawberries, and peaches. (3) Conversely, foods rich in zinc and copper (2 necessary components of thyroid hormones) can increase

the amount of this class of hormones. Zinc rich foods include beef, oatmeal, chicken, seafood, beans, bran, tuna, spinach, seeds, and nuts. Foods rich in copper include organ meats, eggs, yeast, legumes, nuts, and raisins. (4) Ofcourse, it is always advisable to follow an eating plan that includes plenty of fruits and vegetables, low-fat dairy products, and lean protein sources. Avoid highly processed and refined foods, as well as sugar and saturated fat-laden items. Experiment with incorporating some of the foods mentioned, and record any differences you may experience. After a month, you'll be able to guage whether your symptoms have eased or not, and you'll be equipped to decide if you want to maintain this regimen.

It sounds like you are in estrogen dominance or something really screwy with your hormones.

Have you been tested for lupus? It sounds a little bit like lupus symptoms, and lupus can flare during and after pregnancy.

I hope it is not...and perhaps you have been exposed to some chemicals that are estrogenic in nature. Do you know what toxins are in your environment?

I'm so sorry that you are struggling with this stuff ....please do some detoxing if you can. I think consistent detoxing is pretty vital when you go through relapses. I have been doing daily coffee enemas myself, and I have overcome some of those symptoms that reappeared recently. I hope that encourages you. You can overcome this!

Love you!

I was thinkin the same thing.....when making kefir, you use milk and it turns the lactose so it is not a problem, but the casein, stays the same, and if it is the casein you are having a problem with, then I would use a different probiotic.

There is a recipe in the archives for ruby sauerkraut

that is a fermented thing ( bp is only 87/67 so thought process is non-existant right now ) so I used thing in absence of the correct word......cuz I cant think of it, LOL......

anyway, it is a probiotic and you can make it and just eat a table spoon or so at every meal.....The beets you put in are also very good for you.

I think in the book " Nourishing Tradiditons " by Enig there might be other recipes too. I also think Domms kefir site has lots of probiotic recipes.....

Lupus makes your systems go haywire...I know it well.....

and so does lupus like illness..related to breast implant adjuvant disease......so.......

Start to journal.....and see if you can find any patterns....

The vitamins......if you are having mal-absorption problems, they wont help either......

I am thinkin liquid vitamins may be without junk in them.

Will have to research that one.....

If you are tending toward lupus, it might be a really good idea to stay away from dairy, especially since you have a history of not doing well with it.

The Lupus Recovery Diet is a book that gives quite a few testimonies of people who have overcome their lupus by following a specific diet. It is free of meats, dairy and excess protein/fats. You might want to check it out. I followed it after my HCG diet (and feeling terrible on that), and I felt sooo much better! It definitely can't hurt to give it a try and see how you feel. If you find that you feel much better, you'll know what your path to better health will entail, or at least part of it.

Sounds very complicated, whatever it is! I am hoping that you will find answers soon and easily.
