Guest guest
I am forwarding an email that was sent to me. HTH, Mimi ------------------------------------------------------------------- From EW ------------------------------------------------------------------- I have had some requests from SCD'ers that are allergic to nuts to look into the product - Jennie's coconut macaroons. The ingredients in these macaroons are: coconut, egg whites, and honey This item would be great for these people. But... Companies cannot be trusted. I was suspecting two things: 1) Are the egg whites canned, and if yes, do they have anything added to them (which is mostly the case). 2) Is the honey pure I spoke with the company, they seemed like real low-life people. I asked him about the eggs, and he said he makes it from fresh eggs, so I was like-what do you do with all the yolks, so he said he gets it already seperated in big pails (in other words canned). He said it's only eggs without anything added. Honey, he said is pure. I was suspicious. I called the Rabbi that gives a kosher certification (the best way to find out things - since they have to know everything that's in the product in order to certify it kosher), and asked him about these things. This was his answer: The eggs definitely have some enzymes, chemicals and gums to keep them fresh. The honey very possibly has corn syrup in it. Look how careful we have to be!
