Guest guest
for whats its worth, here's my opinion on celebs and perfection: being a 22 year old woman and an absolute product of the generation of that allowed the media to almost assume a parenting role for young women and forcefeed the concept and image of the ideal weight, skin color, breast size, height, hair color and texture of the perfect woman into adolescent girls, i am as impacted by the media as i am disgusted by it. i recognize that men feel similar pressure by comparing themselves to their own relative icons, but the impact this pressure has on young women - taking the form of a host of mental dysfunctions - from eating disorders to manic depression to an inability to function in healthy relationships is, quite frankly, an epidemic that is even more overlooked than rosacea. lucky me, i can speak from experience because i have been terrorized by both. what's more, i can say with close certainty that my rosacea was caused by the eating disorder that held me in its icy grip for almost six years. if i were to say that my own distrubances weren't a by product of media, i would be lying. if i were to say it was the only factor, i would also be lying. but it definitely contributed. as for celebs with rosacea, i often speculate. its comforting to remind myself, especially with the latest assault on my self esteem (rosacea), that others, especially the people we iconize as representing beauty, aren't in fact perfect. now lets speak logically- if there are 13 million people with rosacea, and some of them do not know it, and most of these actors get their start in their early twenties - before most people see signs of rosacea (excluding the lucky ones like me), it is practically impossible that some of our favorite, beautiful faces don't also suffer from it. it would be a fabulous thing if one came forward. however, they have a lot more money working for them, allowing them to probably more effortlessly avoid triggers, which may never make them as terrorized by the day to day trials we struggle with. sandy
