It sure seems like that is a very long time for you to be without your chair

and to still not have it! If you have a prescription for it I don't

understand why it is so difficult to get them to move on it. My dad has

Tricare for Life also. We have not asked for a motorized chair but we still

may if we decide he cancontrol it. I am wondering if the delay is because

Tricare is so new and does not have all their kinks out yet. I went to a

seminar on Tricare in October at Luke AFB. They kept stressing that if

Medicare approved it Tricare would also.

Do you need to pester them a bit more? Do you have these phone numbers?

I hate to pass this bit of information on, however, I put in for a wheelchair back in September. I don't have Medicare but I do have Tricare which is the replacement for Champus. I still don't have my chair.

I have been evaluated three times to see if I need it, which all agree I do, however, I cannot get a commitment from anyone (retailer) to get my chair to me.

I shure hope you can get yours, I went and bought mine through family donations.

The Question about w/c's and motorized w/c's has came up in the last few week's. I had the suggestion for Belinda as to where she may want to take her perscription for the w/c that her doctor gave her, but that was about all I had to suggest until today. You know that our Neurologist wrote a perscription for a motorized w/c for Fred. I gave it to our MD and he has put it in for the authorization. They have started that, but they did want to know some specific information as to why he needs it and they sent out a Rehab Technology Specialist today to see what he would suggest for Fred. The first thing he did was ask question's about what Fred has. I already had a list of everything for him. Med's, DME, when he came down with the MSA, plus all the dates that he has fallen. Also a printed copy of what the MSA is and what can happen. He said that all the things I gave him was really a help. After he talked to Fred, he said that he needed to measure a few things. So he went into the different room's and when he came back he said that he had some suggestions for us. The one thing was he would suggest that we put door jam's on the doors that open flat, so that the door will open to where it is right next to the wall. This will give us about two to three more inches to get pass the door with a motorized w/c. The other things he suggest was the kind of motorized w/c that Fred should have. He said that he still would like to see Fred try to use the walker some, but thinks that either the Jazzy 1122 or the Quickie G 424 would be best for Fred. One because of Fred's size 6'1" 256 and the other is because right now Fred can get himself up some, but at sometime he won't be able to and these you can add things to later if need be. The one that he thinks would be best for Fred is the Quickie G-424. He said that it will turn on a dime, it's easy to run , the arm will go up so Fred can tranfer himself from the bed to w/c. Also he said that we can get two pieces of lumber to lay at the back of the van, as wide as the wheel's on the chair, then we can turn the motor on so that it will go up the ramps into the van to travel with. Also it will go over the door in the back of the house, so that Fred will be able to go out side. He said that he was going to go back and put in the report and it would be about two weeks until we got the authorization and then another two weeks until the wheel chair would be shipped out to him and then he would bring it out to us and show Fred how to tranfer himself and some other suggestion for him to do everytime he is using the w/c. So he said it would be around the last week in April or the first part of May that he would have the w/c. Also he said that we would have a copayment of 20% with Secure Horizons so that would mean that the copayment would be around $1100. Then he said that was what Secure Horizons copayment was for DME. When he said DME , I tolded him what Secure Horizons tolded me about not having a copayment on any DME when it was requested from the doctor and it was authorizated. So he said he would call and check with Secure Horizons. Of course you know me, I have to fine out for myself, so as soon as he left, I called Secure Horizons to fine out, and was tolded once again, that because Fred went out under his company , that he had no copayment on any of the DME , so that he wouldn't have the copayment on the motorized w/c. Vera and Fred,

Thank you so much! That is a lot! I am going to print this out so I

can remember all that you said. There is so much to everything. It is

nice to know that they came out and talked to you though. It makes it

easier to have someone look at your house and see what would be best

for you. I am going to look at the website also and see if it says if

it will go over the yard ok also. I want to know I can do this

because I love the outdoors so much. Thank you again!

Have called everyone from my Senators to the local base. I'm out several hundred dollars. But, that's what the military is used to...sacrifices.
