Guest guest
Dear MogdrMom, Diabetics like me can not take echinacea at all as it is not good for diabetics. Should we take golden seal would it work the same way? Cheerfully, Myra Re: ear pain From: MogdrMom@... Guest guest
Hi Myra, Goldenseal is used by diabetics as a single herb and in pancreas combinations. Caution: it does lower blood sugar levels so hypoglycemics must also pay heed to that tendency. If that is a problem for you, oregon grape or myrrh is used sometimes in place of goldenseal or sometimes licorice root is taken in addition to the goldenseal(in my understanding and I'm not a Master Herbalist). Echinacea is is heralded as an immune system stimulant...diabetics or people with autoimmune involvement that is directly related to " overactive " gland output, have to be careful with it's use. Guest guest
I was just told that diabetics could not use it. I don't know if it henders the medicine or if it just makes diabetics worse. Guest guest
Hi Tou, We were just discussing sharp ear pain. I don't know if it is " normal " , but you are not alone. It probably is just part of the healing process - like your doctor said. Have you tried the 50/50 solution yet? I assume you don't have any openings in your ear - is your eardrum intact? Hang in there, things should start getting better all the time! > I had a mastoidectomy 3 weeks Thursday. Why is it I get a sharp pain in my ear every once in awhile. I willbe sitting watching TV or reading a book and bam it's like a needle being stuck in my ear. It only last a short time then it is gone. Also I am getting clear drainage. This morning it was all over my pillow. I called my doctor and he said it was fine and just healing. Told me to use 50/50 alcohol and white vinegar solution to clean ear. Guest guest
Funny thing about those special form fitted ear plugs. Years ago my Doctor told me not to get them because they didn't work very well. A FEW YEARS LATER as he neared retirement he suggested that I have a pair made. After spending about $50.00(each) to have them made, guess what they don't work for me. I keep trying them every once in a while to see if I'm doing something wrong. The only way I can get them to work is push them in so hard that it hurts. Good luck.
Guest guest
I have tubes in both ears. I tried the 50/50 and it hurt like hell. So I stopped it for now. Where do you get those special fit ear plugs? I have heard about them. Re: Ear Pain Hi Tou,We were just discussing sharp ear pain. I don't know if it is "normal", but you are not alone. Guest guest
If the ear drops hurt so much, are you certain that you do not have a hole in your eardrum?? Whenever my son's ear became extremely painful after using drops of any kind, we always found a small hole. Just a thought. Good luck, Behr -----Original Message-----From: tou [mailto:tou44@...]Sent: Wednesday, January 23, 2002 9:44 AMcholesteatoma Subject: Re: Re: Ear Pain I have tubes in both ears. Guest guest
I don't think the ear plugs work either. My son's first ENT said that they wouldn't work for Troy, because of the extent of his opening. We went to another ENT to get a 2nd opinion (for a consultation) and they had him fitted for an ear plug. We paid over $30 for one ear plug. We gave him a bath, rinsed his hair and lo and behold, he got water in his ear. Needless to say, an infection soon followed. We've used the ear plug, in addition to a wrap, but would never let him go completely under the water. We should have listened to the first doctor. Oh, well. -----Original Message-----From: threeeyepc@... I've had two sets made, thinking that maybe they just needed to be fitted better. No luck. That's sort of why I'm hesitating about the ventilation tubes. Guest guest
We had them made a few years ago, for the kids. They worked great! You had to use vasoline on them for them to slid in and seal shut. Our Dr told us if they allowed water in the ear to take them back and they would remold them, but they were fine. Of course they have outgrown them. But right now they don't really need them. Guest guest
Hi Sue, Yes, ear pain is one of the symptoms of Lyme. I have lots of ear sensitivity. Sometimes the light ear plugs will work to diminish the sound of those awful commercials. I usually watch TV with the clicker in my hand because my ears are so sensitive. I have had lyme for 9 years and the sensitivity is so much better now than when I first was ill. You will find that all kinds of noises that you really didn't pay attention to before will bother you. Best of luck, glad to help. Connie, Michigan USA
Guest guest
Sounds like hyperacusis (I think that's spelled right) and it happens to a lot of us. I get it when I'm feeling at my worst and some other times too. It is a neurological disorder and it is common in lyme. I think that it is due to the neurons in the brain firing too quickly or too easily. At least that was someones theory in CFS a couple years ago. Not everyone experiences it the same way. For me certain sounds like crinkling up paper or plastic, or banging dishes are the worst. At it's worst I have to turn music or tv way down to a whisper and it's hard to be in a room with anyone else. Sometimes it will actually make my whole body jump or twitch. Although I wouldn't quite say that it hurts, it is something akin to that and extremely annoying. Oddly, it is not as bad if I am making the noise- probably because I anticipate it. I also get an effect with it called after hearing that is like a click or pop after the offending sound. Some are forced to wear earplugs, so I guess I'm lucky. I don't think it is dangerous, but it would seem to indicate neurological involvment. It should go away with the rest of the symptoms if you are able to treat the disease. E. >Hi! >We were watching TV last night and when the commercials came on a >little louder than normal my ears started hurting so much that I >couldnt do anything. It was like someone had put the tv off the >channel, but so loud.Has anyone had this,is it dangerous? Thanks to >those people who have replied to my other messages as I have no info >down here in Australia at all.I am relying on the net for feedback >and reading a lot of articles etc. >Thanks again,Sue from Downunder. Guest guest
~ I read your post about hearing sensitivities...and immediately was intrigued by what you call " after hearing " . I have tinnitus and a high level of sensivity equally in each ear from time to time. The click or pop sound you mentioned made me recall a phone call I had a couple of weeks ago. My friend had called and I spent most of the conversation listening to her with the phone held away from my ear a foot's distance due to sensitivity. Then oddly enough when I brought the phone to my left ear, after she was done pronouncing a word, my right ear would make what I would say was a definate popping sound. My mom chuckled to herself when I told her about it...but now I don't so bad knowing that others have experienced this too! Bridget in MN I also get an effect with it called after > hearing that is like a click or pop after the offending sound. Some > are forced to wear earplugs, so I guess I'm lucky. Guest guest
you might want to try rinsing the ear cavity with a solution of alcohol and white vinegar in equal parts.....thats what was recommended to me after surgery and will cleanse the area and hopefully hold off any infection that was coming. cant imagine how you can snorkle without getting any water in your ear...........tho there is no way anyone should go to hawaii without doing hanama bay............ best of luck ear pain Hey everyone,It's been 5 years since my CWD surgery and everythinghas been going great. I just recently got back fromHawaii and have been having some intermittent earpain. It was a long flight (12 hours) and I did get alittle water in my ear while snorkeling even though Iwas using my trusty custom ear plug. What I'mwondering is, am I just being paranoid or has anyoneelse had any ill affects after such a long flight orafter getting water in their ear? Thanks for any help you can offer, __________________________________ - PC Magazine Editors' Choice 2005 http://mail.

Guest guest
> > My son visited with his doctor today and got his ears checked. his left ear was fine but when the doctor tried to stick in the instrament to check ears in the right ear, my son cringed with pain. The doc also noted that that one ear was 100.5 degrees as opposed to the other ear which was 98.1. What could this be? Is there anything anyone has used to naturally clear this up? Can this be a fungus or yeast overgrowth? Please help!! At my house, it would have been a yeast issue. I gave oral GSE to eliminate the problem. More ideas here http://www.danasview.net/yeast.htm If you suspect bacteria, you can try oral olive leaf extract, which was a good anti-bacterial at my house. Wally ear oil or garlic/mullein oil from your local health food store can also be very helpful. Dana
