Guest guest
I have 4 plates in my upper now too and I don't have any discomfort or can feel them (I would never have known that I have any in if I didn't see them on my x-rays) - I would definately call your doctor and make sure they check to see that nothing has shifted, broken, loosened up or you don't have an infection. My OS said that if you have problems with the plates it is normally within the first 3 months of having them in. > I ahve a question. Guest guest
Honey, if it's troubling you, it's really necessary to ask them. You, or your insurance company, paid them big bucks to take care of you and help solve your problem, and I would hope that they are caring professionals who take pride in the quality of their work and care. Whether they seem to want to have anything to do with you is irrelevant. They're your doctors, and it is their ethical responsibility at least to hear your problems (within reason, of course) and try to help you find a solution. Call, or write, and ask! They don't know you have troubles if you don't tell them. Best, cammie > I ahve a question. I have four plates in my jaw now, 2 are on either > side of my nose. Guest guest
I know I should call them. It's true though, that they seem like they are annoyed with me. My orthodontist seems like he wants to get rid of me now. I guess I should call them anyways, I just feel bad because I don't like bothering that much. Would it be a big deal if I didn't say anything about it and just deal with the discomfort?? > > I ahve a question. I have four plates in my jaw now, 2 are on > either > > side of my nose. Guest guest
Just to be on the safe side - I would ask them to check it out and do an x-ray just to make sure everything is ok. > > > I ahve a question. Guest guest
I think you guys are right. It feels like it's getting worse and I don't think I can deal with it anymore. I will call the surgeon tomorrow if I get a chance. And I do remember him saying at my last appointment that, he's here if I need him like if something doesn't feel right of if I can feel the plates or anything. So I'll talk to my mom when she gets home and see if she wants to call him tomorrow. > > > > I ahve a question. I have four plates in my jaw now, 2 are on > > > either > > > > side of my nose. Guest guest
Honeychild, If you don't call him, and something really has gone terribly wrong, you're taking a chance of messing up all that you've already suffered through and for. What I'm saying is that it's better to be safe than sorry. Think of a car tire...if it goes flat, it may cost you $5-$10 or so to have the nail pulled out and the hole fixed. However, if you continue to drive on it, not only will the tire be completely ruined, but the rim, the axle and who knows what else will be damaged also...which may cost you $100's or $1,000's or more. Don't jeopardize all you and your doctors have worked hard for just because you don't want to " bother " them. If it's a " bother " to them, then they're in the wrong business. Most doctors get into this line of work to HELP people and right now, you need that help. It may very well turn out to be nothing at all, but on the flip side, it may turn out to be something major that can be easily be corrected if caught in time, but disastrous if let go too long. Please, whatever you do, don't let this go unchecked. The longer you wait, the worse things may get. Let us know how it turns out. We really do care and want the best for you. Smooches Re: plates??? Guest guest
Ok I called my doctor's office this afternoon (@ 3:00) and the receptionist said he had a few patients and he would call me back in a little while. It's 6:20 now and he never called!! > > > > > I ahve a question. I have four plates in my jaw now, 2 are on > > > > either > > > > > side of my nose. Guest guest
Call first thing in the morning and keep calling if you don't get a call back - be persistent (or in my case annoying!!) - if you have a problem you want to get it taken care of as soon as possible - if you don't then you want the reassurance that everything is ok and you won't have to worry about it anymore - if you are in discomfort then you need to know if there is something that can be done so you don't feel anything anymore - plus it is their job - you are a patient who just had major surgery and they should be returning their phone calls in a timely manner. I thought that I might have had an infection after surgery and I kept calling and kept calling until I got an appt. and saw someone on a Saturday - turns out that I was ok and the persistence paid off because I wasn't worrying all weekend long and my mind was at ease! > Ok I called my doctor's office this afternoon (@ 3:00) and the > receptionist said he had a few patients and he would call me back in > a little while. Guest guest
Yeah I guess you're right. But, I won't be able to call until like 2:30 because I go to school. But I also have driving school for 2 hours after school, so I don't know if I will get a chance to call tomorrow or not > > Ok I called my doctor's office this afternoon (@ 3:00) and the > > receptionist said he had a few patients and he would call me back > in > > a little while. Guest guest
Can your parents call for you? Do they have an answering machine? If so, leave a message tonight something like that you called this afternoon and never rec'd a call back and you are concerned that something is wrong and you are having discomfort. Could you call on your lunch break? I would try to make some time for a phone call for this. Make sure you tell the receptionist what time you will be home to take the call or see if your parents could take the call for you and schedule an appt. > > > Ok I called my doctor's office this afternoon (@ 3:00) and the > > > receptionist said he had a few patients and he would call me > back > > in > > > a little while. Guest guest
Call again, and tell them you're worried. Tell the receptionist what you're worried about. If you need an explanation for why you're calling a second time (which you should not) tell 'em you called yesterday, but were called away from the phone by whatever. Or that your line was busy because of whatever. Just keep after them until at least you've told someone your trouble. Three hours isn't a lot of time to give a busy doc for a callback, at least in my experience. I also am mistrustful about offices and getting messages through, although both my ortho and surgeon were splendid on this front. Guest guest
Ah, this is more important than school, or driving school, for that matter. Nothing wrong with calling early, or even the emergency number. But don't tell 'em it's an emergency if you're willing to go through a day of the discomfort without seeking (again) help for it. You need to call way before 2:30. If you haven't a cell phone, or have to be out of touch, you need to figure out a way to make yourself available. By having them call your parents, or however. Tell them what the troubles are -- you don't need to start with the doc. But you have to make it a priority, too, if you expect them to do so. C. > Yeah I guess you're right. Guest guest
Well I called a little while ago and they said he was with a patient but he would call me back. And this time he called me right back, I just got off the phone with him. He said it's probably from the plates. But he said to wait another month or two and see if it still feels the same or you would have to go back to the operating room. So I was like, well is it going to go away because it's really uncomfortable. He's like, yeah it should or have your mom call and schedule an appointment to get the plates removed. I hope this goes away because it is soooo uncomfortable. I was in study hall today in school and I wanted to just cry because it was soo annoying, it's not too painful but it's just such a bad feeling. > > Yeah I guess you're right. Guest guest
I am glad that at least you found out that it's not something that's gonna get worse by waiting. If it keeps on, I'd wait one month -- or maybe not even that long -- rather than two to go on and get the danged plates out. Or at least to schedule the appointment for doing so. Good wishes to you. Guest guest
Wow, I don't really like his answer - I am sorry - my OS and his staff has been so wonderful and supportive during my recovery - I just don't know what to say or have rec'd answers like that back. He should be concerned and offer to get you in there as soon as possible if you are in any discomfort or pain. I would think that he would want to take x-rays and examine you to make sure nothing has shifted or that you don't have an infection - my surgeon takes an x-ray every other week and checks my incision sites every visit. You shouldn't have to go to the operating room to get the plates removed - they should be able to do it under local, now if something has to be repaired then maybe. I just can't really believe his reply - you know? How far along are you? > > Ah, this is more important than school, or driving school, for > that > > matter. Guest guest
I was told by my OS that if you have problems with the plates or screws that it is more likely early on during recovery rather than later on in life. They said that they make an incision along your gumline where they originally made an incision and take them out - they said it is fairly easy. They also do it in the doctor's office under local rather than the operating room under general. > > > Well I called a little while ago and they said he was with a > > patient > > > but he would call me back.
