Guest guest
On the 14th it will be 3 months. Oh and I don't see my surgeon anymore either. Besides the time I saw him in the hospital, I had 2 scheduled appointments with him after surgery. And he seemed so good about if I needed anything too. I do think I should be seeing him still, but he was like you know if you have any problems or questions or you just want to come in and have me check anything, don't hesitate to call. But when I called today it was like he didn't really want to talk to me anymore. Like I tell you, my orthodontist seems to be the same way. Like they just dropped me after surgery... > > > > Well I called a little while ago and they said he was with a > > > patient > > > > but he would call me back. Guest guest
My OS basically told me the same thing. She said that most people keep the plates for the rest of their life, some have them removed just because they don't want them there; but there are a few who do have some discomfort with them. She told me that if I feel any discomfort, she could remove them very easily in an office visit. Smooches Re: plates??? I was told by my OS that if you have problems with the plates or screws that it is more likely early on during recovery rather than later on in life. They said that they make an incision along your gumline where they originally made an incision and take them out - they said it is fairly easy. They also do it in the doctor's office under local rather than the operating room under general. > > > Well I called a little while ago and they said he was with a > > patient > > > but he would call me back. Guest guest
My surgeon is being this way towards me. And my ortho & his staff is too. I am not the only one who has noticed this. My mom has, my dad, and other people that my mom has talked to this about too. My ortho is still seeing me because I have to have regularly scheduled appointments every 6 weeks. My dad said I guess we will wait like a month to see if I still have that feeling in my mouth and if I do we are going to go see my surgeon and my dad set he will " set him straight " . I dont know if you guys really " believe " the way they are treating us but it's true, and I'm not the only one who has noticed it. I just don't understand how they can be this way to their patient who just had big surgery, espically a child. I mean I am 16, so I'm not a little kid but I'm still considered a child. How could they be this way to me, I need them... > > > > > Well I called a little while ago and they said he was with a > > > > patient > > > > > but he would call me back. Guest guest
Oh yeah and I was wondering. If they did need to remove the plates is it just a simple little procedure they do and then you are fine the next day?? Cuz he seemed to be telling me I had to go back to the hospital for it... > > > > > > Well I called a little while ago and they said he was > with a > > > > > patient > > > > > > but he would call me back. Guest guest
Honeychild, Oh, no...in no way, shape or form am I suggesting that you aren't telling the truth about this. I'm saying that it's unreal that doctors would treat someone like this when they are supposed to be helping. I'm blaming them...not you. It makes matters even worse if others have noticed it, also. I would still confront him...well, being that you're only 16, I would not suggest you confront him, but your parents. However, if your dad wants to wait and then " set him straight " , I would go with that. Good luck. By the way, my " children " are 24, 21, and 20 years old and they are still " children " to me. :-) Smooches Re: plates??? My surgeon is being this way towards me. And my ortho & his staff is too. Guest guest
Honeychild, I started noticing a sharp pain in my right nostril on Sunday (2.5 weeks after surgery). It wasn't an aching pain and it wasn't constant, but I noticed it when I talked, moved my upper lip/nose/etc., or if I lightly pressed on the side of my nose. I called my surgeon on Monday and he said it could be any number of things: 1) a tissue infection underneath the nose 2) a screw that had backed out 3) the stitch they had to put in to hold the nose in position after surgery. I saw him yesterday afternoon and he looked at my xrays, in my nose and at my upper jaw and didn't see signs of swelling from infection.. I then told him EXACTLY when I felt pain and pointed to where.. He said based on the location, the stitch is probably causing an inflamed response in the tissue around it..and that it should dissolve no later than 3 months.. Make the appt with your surgeon, be very specific about when and where you feel pain, what your pain level is on a scale of 1-10, and what type of pain it is (dull aching, sharp, etc.). You should not be satisified with anything other than a concise answer - not just 'wait and see'. If it's an infection you need to be treated immediately - not weeks from now. I'm surprised he didn't put you on antibiotic as a precautionary measure.. Don't wait - Your surgeon needs to see you and make a diagnosis. Guest guest
Yeah he also told me he could be the stitch for my nose too. But I'm surprised he didn't want to see me. It's kind of hard to tell him everything over the phone, like where exactly I have that feeling. Last night it was hurting a lot, it almost felt like a burning feeling. But it doesn't always feel like that, I don't know how to explain how it feels, but it feels like there's something there. And like you said, I can feel it when I move my upper lip/nose/etc... To me, it feels like theres something there, do you have that feeling too?? > > > > > > > > Well I called a little while ago and they said > he > > was > > > with a > > > > > > > patient > > > > > > > > but he would call me back. Guest guest
Yes, it does feel as though there is something poking inside my right nostril - and yes, it's very painful. Without being too graphic, I definitely explored inside to see if I could feel anything - which I didn't. I couldn't describe the location very well either over the phone (which is why my surgeon wanted to see me), but when I saw him I pointed to the exact spot and he was like, 'That's exactly where I put the stitch " . And because the pain is very localized to that exact spot, that's how he determined it was the stitch. You can't diagnose something like this over the phone. I recommend that you call and make an appt - don't even try to explain again over the phone. When you see him, explain in detail at that time what's going on and your fear that it could be an infection (WHICH SHOULD NOT WAIT 4-8 weeks FOR TREATMENT). Write everything down ahead of time if it will help you in your description. I know it's difficult to remember everything when you're right there with the doctor. You are still under the care of your Oral Surgeon - not your orthodontist at this time. Your surgeon should be closely monitoring your progress and addressing any issues that you may have. Today is exactly 3 weeks since my surgery and I've seen my surgeon 4 times already. I'm now moving to seeing him once every 2 weeks, but he's very responsive when I tell him something is wrong. 2 office visits after surgery and then no other follow-ups doesn't seem right to me.. Especially when you tell him you're feeling an unusual pain. You're the patient and you've just paid for a very expensive surgery - assert yourself and get the care that you need. If you don't feel comfortable doing that, then let your mom make the appt and start the initial dialog with the surgeon during the appt. Good Luck! > > > > > > > > > Well I called a little while ago and they > said > > he > > > was > > > > with a > > > > > > > > patient > > > > > > > > > but he would call me back. Guest guest
They told me it was a simple procedure and you should be fine the next day. You might have just a little swelling (nothing like before) and then you just have to keep everything clean and watch the incision site like before, you may be a little sore, but they said not painful. > > > > > > > Well I called a little while ago and they said he > was > > with a > > > > > > patient > > > > > > > but he would call me back. Guest guest
Is it no big deal that you have that pain from the stitches?? Did he just say it would go away?? I know I should call my doctor back, I was just wondering > > > > > > > > > > Well I called a little while ago and they > > said > > > he > > > > was > > > > > with a > > > > > > > > > patient > > > > > > > > > > but he would call me back. Guest guest
If they really are bothering you (to the point of crying) I would get in there for a check-up, insist that they check you out throughly and take x-rays to make sure everything looks ok. If you can wait a month - I would personally just have the plates removed - then you won't have to worry about them anymore and hopefully your discomfort will go away - it would be a shame to have the plates removed if that isn't the root of the problem and how would your surgeon know if he doesn't examine you. It is sad that they can't provide you with the care you need and deserve. I went to 3 surgeons prior to surgeon and had 1 that seemed to be the same way that your surgeon is and thank goodness I didn't proceed with him. I don't know what I would do - I see my surgeon almost every week (at 15 weeks now) and see my orthro every 4-6 weeks - I have so many questions for them each time I see them and feel better that they are keeping an eye on things for me. And I couldn't deal with only 2 post-op visits - that just doesn't seem like enough to me. > On the 14th it will be 3 months. Oh and I don't see my surgeon > anymore either. Guest guest
The thing is, he was really good for the surgery and I'm glad he did the surgery. But now that the surgery is over, he seems different. But he was very good for the surgery and very comforting and reassuring, I don't know what happened since then... I don't know what I did to make them like this. Because my ortho was also really great up until the surgery. He was great from the time I got TMJ (July 2002) until the appointment I had the week before surgery. After that, something was different about him... And now my oral surgeon is different. It's like they both got together and turned against me or something. I was just at the ortho last week and my mom and I both said there was just a different feeling being there, like they didn't really want us there or something. Oh well, that's just the way people are I guess, but I'll get over it and hopefully my braces are coming off in the spring like he said and then I won't have to see him much anymore cuz I'll just have a retainer. > > On the 14th it will be 3 months. Guest guest
I am sure it isn't anything you did. They might just kinda feel like their job is done with you now and if they both have gotten paid already they may have nothing to really work for anymore - although I would think they would like referrals from you and I don't think it sounds like you will refer anyone to them or at least warn them out how they act after surgery is over. Good Luck with everything! > The thing is, he was really good for the surgery and I'm glad he did > the surgery. Guest guest
many surgeons are like that, its a certain personality that goes with their job, at least thats how i see them. the exception are those that work with children/teens. I asked my daugters surgeon if he wasnt really a pediatrician.... he just has the kind of personality totally unlike any other surgeons I have dealt with i the past. I like him very much, he soft spoke and explains everything to us. wendy Re: plates??? I am sure it isn't anything you did.
