,

If you like soy, you may be interested in trying soybean butter. It looks

and tastes similar to peanut butter--only better! I live in land near

Washington, DC, and I purchase my soybean butter at Trader Joe's or Fresh

Fields.

Good protein sources are chicken or fish patties. Since they are ground

up, they go down fairly easy.

Hey Amy - have you tried soy products? I couldn't live without them.

I eat tons of Boca burgers and make soy tacos with the ground beef

substitute almost every night. It's really low in fat and calories,

high in fiber and protein and such, and often goes down easier than

meat. You can get Boca products in almost any grocery store these

days, although the ground beef sub is hard to find, and Morningstar

Farms and a couple other companies also make good stuff. There's also

a new product, Quorn, that's a chicken sub, and I've seen it in Whole

Foods, although it's not as high protein as soy-based products. Boca

makes " chicken " patties as well, which can really satisfy a fast-food

urge (they're breaded) without extra fat and calories.

Amy,

High protein foods that I have started eating since my surgery: tofu and TVP

[textured vegetable protein] which I add to everything I cook for my family

and they never know it, calamari, fish, chicken, cottage cheese, beans and

legumes, vegetarian chili or turkey chili, protein bars in a pinch [ultimate

low bars by biotin have the highest protein, lowest carbs], edamame for a

snack, and kashi low carb cereal......

Let me address this with all of my vast two weeks experience of losing again <

g> after a good year of losing nothing (and in fact, regaining 10 lbs).. If

you work at it, you can lose more weight. You have to work really hard. You

have to eat less, eat the right things, and exercise more. You CAN lose more

weight.

Should you be happy with your current weight loss? I think so, yes. You

should be thrilled! But there's nothing more with also wanting to push on a

bit further. I suspect it won't be easy, but you can do it.

Hi Becky,

I don't have any ideas, but I am also 2 years out with about 30 lbs to

The key is to never give up! What does the doctor say about this? What does

your Nutritionist say about this?

plateaus

I have been reading about the so called window of opportunity being

up to 2 years to loose our weight and reach our goal. I have been

out of surgery for 2 years and have not lost any weight in 6 months.

I have about 60 more that I need to loose. I started at 379 and I

now am at 225 and stuck. Does this mean I should give up and say

well this is it and be happy with this? Has anyone else been able to

get the weight loss started after such a long time. Any ideas would

be appreciated.

Thanks

last week I had to start a special diet for getting rid of intestinal yeast,

I am also on medication, but the biggest thing is that the yeast feeds on

sugar and carbs and thus the cravings and inability to lose even a single

pound. and also without deleting sugar and carbs from the diet you can not

starve off the yeast and kill them.

I am really convinced that more of 'us' have this problem but it is not

being diagnosed - too many of 'us' complain of bloating, foul gas, cravings,

inability to lose a single pound and all the while the " critters'' in our

gut are ruling us. it is commonplace for yeast to grow when there is a lack

of hydrochloric acid in your gut which would normally kill off the yeast.

for this cycle to really get started, it takes a good helping of antibiotics

that may also cause a vag. yeast infection and/or thrush - which seems to go

away but then the other symptoms set up and continue. many of us are subject

to antibiotics during plastics or adhesions surgery - for me it was my

hystie and complications - 7wk. of antibiotics, stuff like cipro.

I've done a lot of reading on this the last two weeks and there is a

homeopathic route you can take or a medical [prescriptions] route you can

take. I tried the homeopathic method but I've had thrush for 5mo. now and

unlimited bottles of nystatin and grapefruit seed extract, peroxide and

diflucan would not kill it.

anyhow - I guess my point is that by changing my diet I was able to drop a

couple quick pounds this first week and I would suspect that the same would

happen for anyone else with or without yeast. but if you suspect yeast you

should do this for four weeks and then reintroduce fruit - if you bloat

eliminate it for another week and its a trial and error method from there.

you also need to use acidophilus in double doses, grapefruit seed extract

too. but the diet is simple - No sugar, No artificial sweeteners, No

alcohol, No carbs, No fruit. basically meat protein and vegetables - the

lower carb ones though.

your cravings die off and hopefully the yeast does too, although they say it

takes a good three weeks for that to happen.

this is restrictive and not a permanent lifestyle for eating - but it might

be enough to jumpstart your lose or alleviate a yeast problem you didn't

know you had.
