Trimebutine / Modulon and antiserotonin activity

Aletta,

Thanks for the update on Trimebutine / Modulon. Neither Peg or I have any

experience with this med. However I noted the following information about

the antiserotonin activity in the patient. I would think a doctor would want

to monitor that activity in Shy Drager / MSA / Lewy Body Disease patients

taking that medicine. A number of meds taken by such patients, including

anti depressants, will act on the same function.

Keep us posted on how the med helps.

2. MECHANISM OF ACTION

Trimebutine is a noncompetitive spasmolytic agent. It

has moderate opiate receptor affinity and has marked

antiserotonin activity especially on 'mu' receptors. The

mechanism of action appears to be poorly understood

since reports in the literature and product monograph

are scant.
