Yes, we malabsorb fats & oils, to a degree, so the cholesterol & trig fall,

but so do the A, D, & E. Mixed blessing

If u can talk 'em into it, I'd add all the major vitamins, if for no other

reason than to establish a baseline. I had to go thru 6 docs tho b4 I could

convince one to order those..........

  • 2 weeks later...

I had a good experience I wanted to share. Earlier this year my job

changed healthcare to Kaiser HMO , I have been on a waiting list for a

PMD, and its time for my routine labs, I was told I now have a PMD and

saw her on Wed., I expected a fight to get the labs I needed. I

explained my history, WLS etc.... she got a lab slip and checked many

items then showed it to ME and said these are the labs I am aware that

WLS patients need, are there any other your WLS Doc feels you need?

WOW!!!! I had 10 vials of blood drawn today, I had to fast 14 hours, no

alcohol for 72 hours etc... She said the Vits take a little extra time

to process, come back in 3 weeks and we will go over your labs, give you

a complete physical, pap, and breast exam. I was, and still am shocked

and VERY pleased. I am glad I am getting this done now. In Jan-03 my

job once again is changing healthcare, this time to BC/BS PPO, Just

wanted to share.

I know this isn't the " insurance " list but this is worth mentioning for all

of us who FINALLY hook up with a great doctor!!!

>>>In Jan-03 my job once again is changing healthcare, this time to BC/BS

PPO<<<

I've got same/similar insurance and over the years that our insurance has

changed we always opt for the PPO and so far, when I'm using a doctor that

is not an " in-network " but a good one I don't want to stop using I call the

insurance (Regince BC/BS PPO) and tell them I want to keep seeing this

doctor because they have my history and so on... the insurance will send you

and the doctor a " permission to be treated " letter for X amount of visits

that year and the costs will be treated as if they are " in network " even

though they aren't.

I found how to do this with my therapist who I've had for over 7 years and

many insurance changes as well as my PCP... so far I've been given

permission for both from all the insurances. If something happens and I need

extra visits -- we just call the insurance, tell them why and they give

permission for the extra visits.

When you find a great doctor like Ann has here -- it is SO worth the phone

call, going through the process and getting to keep seeing that doctor.
