Guest guest
I am always looking for Handicap Accessible Vacation Rental Properties. Not an easy thing to find as a ramp doesn't mean the shower works for someone in a wheelchair, as you all know. I have luckily found a house at the beach on the Outer Banks in North Carolina for this summer. There is a doctor building three homes fully accessible, roll in showers, elevators, bathroom sinks and toilets, etc. The houses have 7 - 8 bedrooms and two of them are fully accessible as is the rest of the house. Seems to be the newest idea (about time)down there when it is new construction. They are expensive and I would love to know if there are other (less expensive) locations for future vacations. My middle name is " go " and Jerry gets dragged along when I travel in the States. So, I figured you are the people who would have the info on truly handicapped accessible properties. We love to get all the kids and grandkids together for one or two weeks each summer. Thanks Jan

Guest guest
hi My family and I found that Marriot (BEST in price and accommodating),Westin, hotels near hospitals, radisson,STATE (not national) parks (1-800-at a park) are accessible if noted, and Key West, Florida, Cleveland, Chicago, New York City, and Grand Cayman Islands. Airlines--Continental - BEST I have even had the pilots help the stewardess/ stewards get me onto the plane. The wheelchairs and walkers are handle with utmost care. Delta- worst Southwest - I got there 2.5 hours early and they didn't call for handicapped seat check in prior to non handicapped seat check in. Accessible --electric reclining wheelchair and 10 foot tall van with side lift that can be parked legally on the street or near the front of the hotel. Some questions I ask and get written confirmations 1) How tall in height is the overhang infront of the hotel ? if the person doesn't know I will wait while they measure it. The westin in toronto Canada measured it. That is how nice and patient they were at 6 AM. 2) handheld shower and ROLL IN shower where I can roll in my wheelchair. Do they have such a room?? 3) non -smoking handicapped rooms? The Hampton Inn in Rochester (5 mins from UR) is not accommodating when it comes to 2 beds and non-smoking, and handicapped. U can not have all 3 at once. Any questions u ask??? gotta go . The aide is here! nancy m. bosendorfer88 wrote: > > I am always looking for Handicap Accessible Vacation Rental > Properties.
