Guest guest
---Dear mesaletta: Thanks for the reply. I tried to post a response last evening but don't see it this am: I'm still having trouble with this posting format. As you can see from the bottom of my original post my first name is actually Barb despite my address (tho I've been called Bob on occasion and certainly didn't mind). To answer your question: I've had a dx of (atypical I would say) parkinsonism since January of 2001, but not more specific than that. I have significant dizziness, sometimes trouble walking when meds--mirapex.75 mg x 4 -- are low, a lot of stiffness and bradykinesia (like this am) especially when meds are low, and a kind of near night blindness that seems to be lack of pupil accomodation to changes in light--in other words, autonomous nervous system symptoms that aren't generally typical of early idiopathic PD. Also, I'm 46. I'm torn between wanting greater certainty (which I realize may not be possible) and not wanting to know. Thanks again for the helpful response. Guest guest
Aletta, What you say about appearing to be drunk, touches a chord. I have had a few episodes lately where I appear to lose my steering so to speak. I am aiming to walk in a straight line and veer off to the left as if I am walking around a curve of an imaginary circle someone has drawn on the ground. My general balance during these episodes is precarious to say the least. In terms of speech, I am getting more requests to repeat myself and not mumble than I have experienced for years. I must say it is a skill we Aussies have developed to keep flies out of our mouths (mumbling that is). Anoother thing, I wondered whether people in general have any experience with is, I have to double click a mouse five or six times and really bang it to get it to work. I am noticing with pressing keyboard keys and anything with a button in general that I am starting to press on a number of occassions and not registering. It seems that the strenghth in my fingers is diminished. I certainly have visible signs of atrophy in various parts of both hands. I also noted the discussion regarding Peripheral Neuropathy, would this equate to numbness and stiffness in the hands and wrists as well as the feet up to the calf area. As you may gather I am having fun and games with a range of things going on in my body at present, but like many of you, I will persevere. All the best to everyone on the list and their families. Guest guest
Marg, I get hand pain, particularly after painting for a few hours. The pain extends across the top of my hand from the webbing between the thumb and index finger to approximately the ring finger on both hands. I also get cramps in the hand when eating using a soup spoon for instance. I've also had to give up chopsticks as my hand pains too much when using them. I notice patchy discoloration (possibly duskiness) on both hands, scratches do not seem to form a scab like on other parts of my skin. Also my fingers appear quite white with most of the blood pooled in the finger tips. If I make a half relaxed fist, my hand knuckles are quite visible up against the skin. Hope this helps.
