Guest guest
Hi Bill, Thanks for the number. I already have reservations, just needed numbers to leave here in case of emergency. Don't ever want to think of that, but must. See you tomorrow. Jean & Chrissie
Guest guest
I think this is the toll free reservation number for the national chain, not specifically for the one at Boston airport. 1 800 HOLIDAY (1 ) See this site for information specifically on the Holiday Inn Boston airport: http://www.holiday-inn.com/holiday-inn?_franchisee=BOSAP Re: Boston meeting > Anyone have the 800 number for the Holiday Inn where the conference is being > held? > Thanks, > Jean > > If you do not wish to belong to shydrager, you may > unsubscribe by sending a blank email to > > shydrager-unsubscribe > > > > >

Guest guest
Great report Bill. Let's hear from a few other attendees... Jean in Maine... Tony in Boston? Was there anything new about the North American MSA Study Group(researchers)? Did you and Carol speak about how to start up a local support group? Sounds like you visited the Quincy Market / Faneuil Hall area. Boston sure has a great atmosphere doesn't it? Hugs, Pam

Guest guest
Pam, Oops, We both forgot about the North American MSA Study Group question as far as I can remember. I had more questions to ask, but we ran out of time. A lot of time was devoted to a fellow from the PD group in Denver who was asking very basic questions about MSA and he had no actual tie to MSA patients. When I gave him the group email address, he said he had no time for more lists, he was on too many already. It bothers me that he would come all the way to Boston (probably at his association's expense) to learn things that he could learn for free by reading our archives. Yes Carol and I spoke for a few minutes each about starting a support group and contrasted our two groups. We also pointed out that Charmayne's group started as a picnic in a park and moved to the same type as Carol's group with formal meetings. Suggested that every group may need to start in a living room or park with a couple of members and move to what the people want. You can also just have a telephone support call to a member nearby to help each other. I know of several people on the list who call each other often. Note ) Jean may be very tired as we kept her up until early Sunday morning. She, Kate and I sat around talking in the lounge at the hotel after going to dinner Saturday evening. Then she left while I was in the meeting Sunday, so I did not get a chance to say goodbye. Bye Jean ) Saturday night we had Carol and Rob, Kate and me, Jean, Joan , the Bynums, a couple from Wisconsin, a couple from Pennsylvania and a fellow (with MSA) who was at the meeting by himself. We had a great time and a good meal, although the restaurant had lousy handicap access around the back, up a narrow ramp with no railing, through the kitchen and back to the front of the restaurant ) Coming out the men with the walkers decided it was easier to come down the stairs with help from the parking attendants. It was a fun group. Yes, that was the name - Quincy Market was the one with all the restaurants I think. ) I don't remember that sort of thing, I would have to ask someone else. Yes Boston does have a great atmosphere and everyone was happy as the both Red Sox and Celtics had won. ;o) Take care, Bill Werre ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- pammygbower wrote: > Great report Bill. Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I just have a few additional comments about the Boston meeting. I agree with everyone else who has responded that it was a great meeting. It was just wonderful to meet the people on the list and put a face to the name. I feel very fortunate that it was in my area and that I was able to attend. The panel of doctors and Chase RN, were very helpful and more than willing to speak one on one during the breaks. There was ample opportunity for question and answer periods. Many others have given a great accounting of what went on and I have only a few additional points that I found interesting. 1. With regard to bowel hypomotility... there is a possibility that botox may help. (I don't know if they are doing this now or if it is in the near future.) 2. Use of fibers that you mix with water are very good. Citricil doesn't bloat and you can use up 1/2 tsp. up to 3-5 tsp. a day. 3. Quaker unprocessed bran, put in a smoothie. Can also sprinkle it over applesauce. 4. What I considered to be great news is that they are talking about a time-released medicine soon for constipation. In regard to exercise. Exercise that is done without breath-holding is best. Swimming is highly recommended as is a recumbent bicycle. I also found this very interesting. All doctors agreed that they like to see a little edema in the ankles as a result of taking Florinef or drugs used to raise the b/p. The reasoning is that edema helps to push the blood up where it tends to pool. Dr. on spoke of the importance of ingesting water frequently. 16 ounces of water will raise your b/p within 10 minutes, you will get the maximum results in 30 minutes and it goes away after 60 minutes. To everyone responsible for putting this program together, many, many thanks. Jean Lockhart W. Bath, Maine
