Guest guest
Dear M. Bruner and all, Thank you for your response and for the response with the e-mail contacts for Mayo Clinic and Vanderbilt. As it was Friday when I got them, I e-mailed both and have not had ANY response from either. My father-in-law is still breathing - but that is all. He started refusing food about 1 week ago and water about 5 days ago - and has been breathing but not responsive for the past 3 days. We would like to donate. I think it would really help my mother-in-law to feel that some good is coming out of this...but realize that if we don't get in touch with them..it may not be possible. Death is indeed imminent. Guest guest
, No, my neuro didn't give specifics but I asked him the question as he was going out the door at the end of my visit. I will catch him earlier next visit in August and get more details. I lean more towards Mayo because I've been there and was impressed with the overall attitude. Call me a skeptic, but I don't know about dealing with the government!!! Barbara

Guest guest
Did he say why he thought NIH was the best place to donate it? Just curious. We considered both Mayo and Vanderbilt since my father had been seen at both places. We decided on Mayo for two reasons. First, they had done all of the original testing and gave my father his dx. He had been seen there several times and they knew his history. Second, they picked up all charges related to the donation, (which were considerable, especially since my father's body had to be flown to Little Rock for a pathologist there to remove the tissue.) I should add that the Drs. at Vanderbilt were a bit disappointed that we didn't choose to donate it to them, but were thrilled that we were donating it at all. I gather that such donations are somewhat rare. in OK --- Bvpond44@... wrote: > > > Don't mean to come in the middle of an ongoing > conversation, but I have given > serious consideration to donating my brain (at the > appropriate time!!!) for > research.
