Guest guest
There are 4 disorders that are very similar to each other. We've had people who thought they had MSA but autopsy revealed one of the other three. Some cases of CBGD and PSP can't even be distinguished from each other with autopsy... so there is a really blurred line between those two disorders. MSA and LBD are most similar to each other clinically and both have the protein " alpha-synuclein " involved in neurodegeneration. CBGD and PSP both have the protein " tau " involved in neurodegeneration. Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) --> alpha-synuclein protein disorder http://www.emedicine.com/NEURO/topic671.htm Lewy Body Dementia (LBD) --> alpha-synuclein protein disorder http://www.emedicine.com/NEURO/topic91.htm Corticobasal Ganglionic Degeneration (CBGD)--> tau protein disorder http://www.emedicine.com/NEURO/topic77.htm Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP)--> tau protein disorder http://www.ninds.nih.gov/health_and_medical/disorders/psp.htm There is a research center at the University of Pennsylvania which is studying all of these disorders. See: http://www.uphs.upenn.edu/cndr/ This center will be involved in the MSA Research Study led by Dr. Cliff Shults. Drs. Viginia Lee and Trojanowski (husband and wife team) are the main researchers at this center. Regards, Pam Re: - Belinda Jerrie, I am not sure. Maybe Pam can answer this question for you. I do not have OH. I have high blood pressure instead of low blood pressure. I think and I am not sure but I think it affects the brain more also. I will try to figure it out for you but one of my lense just fell out of my glasses and I have a hard time reading without them. God bless, Belinda > Belinda: What is the differrence between CBDG & MSA? My husband was dx > with MSA, so I curious. Thanks. Guest guest
Hi Pam, Thanks for that answer, that explains why my neuro said I have either MSA, CBGD, OR PSP. The only one he did not included was LBD. And who knows, that could change with time as well. He thing is none are curable so lets treat the best we can. Belinda said she does not have the low bp, but has high bp. HeHe, I have both. Depending of various factors that I have not yet to figure out my bp lying and standing can be very high, but does still drop alot when I go from lying to standing. Right now I am on the low side everyday. Saw dr today and her nurse said she gives up figuring out whether I am " normal " for me or not. It changes everytime I go in. The dr herself has set what she considers acceptable limits to her and if I fall in that range she is happy and today she was on the verge of unhappy. I do not know which disorder I have and there fore would not even know which if any study I would qualify for, but some day I would like to be in a study. thanks wanda --- Pam Bower pbower@...> wrote: > There are 4 disorders that are very similar to each > other.
