There are 4 disorders that are very similar to each other. We've had people

who thought they had MSA but autopsy revealed one of the other three. Some

cases of CBGD and PSP can't even be distinguished from each other with

autopsy... so there is a really blurred line between those two disorders.

MSA and LBD are most similar to each other clinically and both have the

protein " alpha-synuclein " involved in neurodegeneration. CBGD and PSP both

have the protein " tau " involved in neurodegeneration.

Corticobasal Ganglionic Degeneration (CBGD)--> tau protein disorder

Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP)--> tau protein disorder

There is a research center at the University of Pennsylvania which is

studying all of these disorders. See: http://www.uphs.upenn.edu/cndr/ This

center will be involved in the MSA Research Study led by Dr. Cliff Shults.

Drs. Viginia Lee and Trojanowski (husband and wife team) are the main

researchers at this center.

Pam

Jerrie,

I am not sure. Maybe Pam can answer this question for you. I do not

have OH. I have high blood pressure instead of low blood pressure. I

think and I am not sure but I think it affects the brain more also. I

will try to figure it out for you but one of my lense just fell out

of my glasses and I have a hard time reading without them.

God bless,

Belinda

Pam: Thanks for the info. The symptoms of MSA are so similiar to all the

other diseases..that's why it is so difficult to get a definite

diagnosis until autopsy. Bob has most of the MSA symptoms, except the BP

problem, but I understand that is not unusual either. Thanks for all the

help you give to everyone! Regards, jerrie
