Sue,

I too had hallucinations, only 4 times though, which I related to the Mirapex. Drug holidays for me, (I have had 4 of them), were horrible for 2 reasons. 1. I never returned to the prior level of functioning when I restarted my medication. & 2. Paranoid ideations set in and I felt that I was rational at the time but was having VERY irrational thoughts and behaviors. I'll give you an example.

I was told my my MDS to go off of all meds for 48 hours prior to my seeing him last July. I did as asked and had a friend drive me to my appointment. My husband and I had a minor disagreement and I spent the next 3 weeks in my car, on the road, running from him. I thought he was trying to harm me and steal from me. I put 3600 miles on my car and covered 10 states during this time and convenes my friends along the way that my husband was a horrible person for whom I needed to be protected from.

Needless to say, this did my marriage no good. It took those 3 weeks for my meds to balance in my system again and my dysfunctional brain to realize that what I thought wathoroughlythinking was nothing more than sheer paranoid delusion.

Before you give your husband a "drug holiday" discuss it thouroughly with his neurologist and make the decision together with the doc.

As for me, drug holidays have been horrible. I never regained the level of functioning that I had before them and I went off in left field mentally each time I had one too. I for one, would never do it again.

But like I said, this is just my experience. Only you working with your husband and the neurologist can make this kind of decision.

Hugs,

Deborah aka Tenacity

Hi, I am Sue, I have not been very active with the group but have

been a member for sometime. My husband, has Parkinson Plus,

SDS. He has for sometime now been seeing things, people, critters as

he calls them. My question is has anyone had hallucinations taking

Sinemet and Selegiline or in connection with SDS. He was taking

mirapex when they first started but he has not had any for several

months.

He also has arthritis and takes Embrel and Methotrexate both as

injections and Prednisone which he was off of for 9 days and it did

not make any difference with the hallucinations.

Has anyone taken a drug holiday? If so did it help or would you

recommend that this be tried as a solution to the hallucinations. We

are ready to try anything.

Thanks for all your help.

Sue and
