Vera,

Now, now you are not old enought to remember Packards or even DeSoto's.

How about 78's for records? Wind-up phonographs? Penny post

cards? 3 cent stamps? Twice a day postal deliveries?

The iceman? Actually you felt cheated at the movies if you did not

get a newsreel, a serial (like Rocketman), two cartoons, next weeks previews,

and a double feature (for 20cents).

Cords and Hupmobiles (autos)

Trolley cars in DC.

Sky writing (almost daily)

Blowouts on tires

Rationing (I know you are too young for that)

Warbonds

Air Raid Wardens

Army Air Corp

Zinc pennies

Tootsie toys

Erector sets

Gasoline at under 20 cents a gallon

A single scoop ice cream cone a 5 cents

Hamburgers at a nickle (bag of twelve for 50 cents)

Penny candy

Turkish taffy

Putting salt on slugs

friction tape repairs to baseballs or softballs

Truman holding up the Chicago Tribune with headlines "Dewey Wins" in

1948

orange crate scooters (forerunner of todays "Razor" scooters, but much

cheaper :o)

innertube band guns (made with a piece of wood, a spring type clothespin

and a 1 inch band cut from an innertube)

Inner Sanctum

Ish Kabible

Klem Kadiddlehopper

Cameron Swazie

What else folks.

Hugs, Bill Werre

"Really hard on the pelvis and tail bone".Margarine you mixed with color. Gas stamps, food stamps. War bond stamps. Penny post cards. Buffalo nickels. Silver dollars. Aluminum pennies.Mercy. Barb,

I still use wash detergent with blue in it :o) They were zinc

not aluminum pennies in 1943 and 44. I do remember the stamp books

that you got a war bond when you filled the book (now that you mentioned

it). I do remember the "Extras" for VE Day, the A-Bomb and

VJ-Day. I also remember us fighting over who got to mix the color

into the margerine :o) First it was a red powder, then a solid bag

with a bubble of red liquid that you popped and kneaded through the bag

:o) A 7 inch TV was huge :o) Magnifiers on TV's too :o)

Dodge ball; Mother May I; Kick the can; Red light,

Green light - Ah the good old days - everyone on the block

played. On rainy days we had a half dozen on the floor in the living

room playing Monopoly.

Take care, Bill
