Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I could use what ever handy travel tips you might have. Jerry and I will be taking a couple road trips in the the next few weeks. Our big trip will be (July 8)Arizona to NJ to NC and back to AZ on Aug 17. It will be just the two of us, so one driver, and tons of equipment. We have an Oxygen Concentrator, C-Pap Unit (with car adapter), wheelchair, slide board and probably a dozen things I will forget and regret. We have maps and lots of decisions to make about routes but I am most concerned about me moving everything in and out of hotels and forgeting something that should be along. I know those of you with MSA probably have tips on things like length of time in vehicle before stopping for rest vs. stopping for the night. Caregivers that have traveled probably have handy dandy tips on moving people and equipment into hotel, etc. It is nice to know that where ever I go I am probably only a short distance from one of you on this list. The laptop computer goes! Happy Trails, Jan

Guest guest
One thing that Ido is splurge and use bell hops or other assistance at the hotel/motels. Guest guest
One of those "horseshoe" shaped pilllows filed with some kind of seeds (buckwheat, I think) is handy for the neck. We found them in Cracker Barrel for under $10. Speaking of Cracker Barrel, they are located just off the interstates, have plenty of H/C parking right in front, and are easy to get in and out of. If there is a wait, those rocking chairs are great and it's fun to browse. The food is good, too. Barbara Pond Blacksburg VA
Guest guest
Jan, Looking forward to having you here in NC. As far as the passenger side of the trip goes.... I found 3 things of vital importance. 1. Lots of extra pillows and blankets. I used these to position myself into temporary comfortable positions where not much pressure was on any one spot for any length of time. I also used pillows for head support. I find I tire much quicker when I have to support my own head for more than an hour or so. And to date, I know of no car that has a head rest that is really comfortable. 2. I needed to get out and " take a break " about every 2 hours regardless of the speed traveled. 10-15 minutes was all I needed to stretch enough to be able to spend another 2 hours in the car. 3. (This may or may not apply). For me, I told that any daily trip over 6 hours was just plain cruel! I found that I could last this long and any longer just made me grumpy and sore and tired and dreading the next day. Also, FYI: When you need to use the restroom while on the trip, stop at a Motel or Hotel and use theirs. They are much cleaner and more easily accessible than those in gas stations, restaurants and truck stops. We use those whether or not they have a snack shop or not. If anyone says anything, just ask the person what the price of the rooms are and then say you'll think about it. We have never had a problem with this one. Guest guest
Hi, in regards to your laptop.. if you're going to be connecting to the internet from your hotel room, your results will vary by hotel... we stayed at a Best Western hotel in Houston that per the Best Western web site has " two-line phones with dataports... " in actual fact only one line was hooked up to the phones, and the " dataports " were there for decorative purposes only.. they weren't actually functional. We were however able to connect to the internet via the one line that the room did have... at 2400 BPS.. which is not incredibly fast... also, when making reservations, call the hotel directly, they somtimes offer rates over the phone that are quite a bit different than the rates offered on their web site.. and if you are reserving a handicap-accessible room, do so as far in advance as possible. -- Elliot elliot01@... www.xenopink.com/elliot/
