I too wish I'd done it much younger.. when maybe my metabolism hadn't been

dredged and ruined from so many diet attempts. I think this is a very

personal decision. I have a friend who's 17 year old son had it done. He

was 400 lbs.... why should he have waited till he had life long

complications. Both parents diabetic.. Dad with sleep apnea.. didn't take a

doctor to see where he was headed at a very very young age. He is very

happy now. I know older people who have it done. I think it's whether or

not you qualify under guidelines. I am sure there are some doctors out

there who will do it no matter what.. I think these doctors are the

exception. Every surgeon that I've had any knowledge of (being in a support

group I hear on a large #) is very strict as to who he does these procedures

on and will turn people away if they feel they are not ready or a true

candidate.

Personally the thought that I could have had so much more of a life at a

younger age.. that makes me wish I'd done it sooner. On the flip side..

this surgery is much safer now than it's ever been. Not to say things don't

still go wrong and the complications are not still there, but compared to

the 70's WLS by far is much less complicated in all. I would never consider

telling someone they shouldn't have had it done. If they and their doctor

feel it's right for them.. than who am I to disagree. Same could be said

for plastic surgery.. and any other elected surgery out there.

Okay my 2 cents ;)
