Guest guest
Dear Sandi, I am glad that you came forward with your " secret. " At a minimum, you will help others by sharing the information, but I think that you will also benefit from the collective wisdom of the group that will be offered to you. I had the DS as my WLS, so I do not have any personal RnY experience. Many of the DS folk have been keeping food diaries and learning about food values at http://www.fitday.com/. It is for dieting in general, or, more exactly, for learning how to use food day in and day out, a lifestyle change. Those that use it swear by it, and that is how I learned of it, though I do not use it myself. It is free, so what's to lose, other than weight? As to practical advice: yes, eat proteins FIRST, then, if there is room left over, eat a few veggies and complex carbs (avoiding the white stuff, as you already suspected). Proteins will make you feel fuller longer, and you need them to maintain your body's physical integrity. As for the WLS " window, " we have learned that, for the DS, people who have lost slowly often continue to lose into year 3, that is, for as much as 36 months. I take comfort in that information, because I am a slow loser. As long as there are no mechanical problems with your surgery (SLDs or enlarged stomas), I think that you should also have an extended window. Take heart. All is definitely not lost for you. And, keep coming back for encouragement. Best, Steve At 10:34 PM +0000 11/12/02, Sandi wrote: >I'm pretty ashamed at writing this because I feel like a total >failure. I had stopped losing for almost 1 1/2 years, then I finally gave up my beloved oatmeal for breakfast and made myself a protein shake (even with a banana). It not only filled me up longer in the morning, I also lost my cravings for the junk food during the day. The end result? I lost another 20 pounds as a 3-year post-op! And that was with only 1 shake per day! So, I think that window of opportunity crap is just that! in NJ
Guest guest
I'm almost 25 months out and am still losing. Had an 8 month plateau where I ate and drank late at night. My weight loss resumed when I restarted my healthy eating and exercising. I started at 370, got to 284, now since June have lost to 240. I don't believe it all ends at 18 months, and I'm living proof. Kepp on keeping on.. Vicki A. and stalled > >I'm pretty ashamed at writing this because I feel like a total > >failure.
