Guest guest
During the war, (40's) we use to go to down town Ft. , Ark. and watch the people walk by. We lived on HW 71 and we were kept busy watching the soldiers go by as they were leaving Camp Chaffee, Barling, Ark. Tossed our addresses into the army vehicles and received theirs in return. We wrote to a lot of those guys. We could skate for miles on that highway and never see a car. Good fun and cheap. Guest guest
My parents rented a room to couples stationed at air force base, housing was scarce. We had an "illegal" barrel of sugar in the clothes closet (from Mexico). When I got a liitle older we would park a car in the middle of the hiway, turn on radio and dance on pavment. No traffic problems. Ginger Re: old? Guest guest
Barb and Ginger your memories sound like so much fun. I remember being able to walk all over town and through a large college campus by myself and not having to worry about getting hurt. Making a house with rooms in the wheat that was planted on the farm behind my house. We sure did make that farmer mad but at the time we were just having fun playing. We had fun tobaggoning, ice skating on the pond, and snowmobiling in the state parks trying not to get caught because it was against the law. I grew up 45 minutes from Niagra Falls on Lake Ontario and we had a lot of bad winters. I lived between Rochester and Buffalo N.Y. in a town called Brockport so you can imagine what kind of snow we had. I am sure alot of you have or had snow like that also. Anyway those are the things I remember... God bless, Belinda > My parents rented a room to couples stationed at air force base, housing was scarce. Guest guest
Blanche, I don't remember hearing about Gasport before. I imagine it was also on the Erie Canal though. Was it? I live in Loganville, Georgia. A small town that is growing bigger all the time. We are getting a Home Depot and a WalMart! Big news here. hehe Those are the only 2 stores that my family and I need. I live Northeast of Atlanta. It is about 60 miles from Atlanta. We might only have 1 snow a year so tobaggoning, iceskating on the pond, and snowmobile riding doesn't exsist here. Instead there is 4 wheelers, swimming pools, and kids playing sports. Life entertainments change and so do we!
