I was raised with the 'one life one job' mentality. I was offered other jobs over the years but refused because of a misplaced loyalty to the company. On 11/7/01 I was laid off after 29 years. (downsizing) I am over 60 so my chances of being hired as an HR Supervisor / Workers Comp specialist are slim and none. Geez............think it could be age related? I had one little 'barbie' at a major drug store chain actually drop her jaw and trip over her tongue when I arrived for the interview. We had talked a lot on the phone and my voice does sound younger than I am...chronologically. Then she proceeded to ask me illegal questions and was perturbed at me for not responding. I have been offered $7 ph jobs. So here I am...one year later....still unemployed. Going to school studying medical coding/ insurance billing. I decided I don't want a career...just a job with insurance. Have any idea how much COBRA costs? About as much as a new policy / with a new carrier if you can find one that will take pre-existing conditioins. Am I bitter??? You bet! Will I get over it? Maybe I shouldn't. I know I want to help legislators find some way to help folks who are 2 years from retiring when they lose everything for downsizing! Yep I talked to lawyers. Couldn't find one willing to take on the big guy in my lifetime! Takes too long and too much money would be lost. So folks take heed. Save your money for legal representation, get more than one degree and remember be loyal to yourself first. Sorry but I had a rotten day! Feel better now... So here I am...one year later....still unemployed. Going to school studying medical coding/ insurance billing. **********education that has a job at the end of it is the way to go, you chose right I think. I decided I don't want a career...just a job with insurance. Have any idea how much COBRA costs? ********Been there, done that, more than once. COBRA last time cost us 6(* dollars A MONTH for the two of us. About as much as a new policy / with a new carrier if you can find one that will take pre-existing conditioins. Am I bitter??? You bet! Will I get over it? Maybe I shouldn't. ***********I think we could all consider transforming biterness into righteous love and then try to help others who are knocked down, espcially those who have less. Just my two cent's worth, you're far from " kept down " I can tell, you ar coming out swinging, just our kind of girl... you can put that injustice to good use. I only have a small cocern because I know Bitterness is caustic ; it actaully de-energizes people, wears them down. Righteous desire to do for people, to help others be cared for decently, causes tiredness of another kind, one with a certain amount of feeling one has tried to do something useful. I know I want to help legislators find some way to help folks who are 2 years from retiring when they lose everything for downsizing! ********you go right after that. Call up your local congressperson at the State level and ask the hard questions and what you can do to helpp. Yep I talked to lawyers. Couldn't find one willing to take on the big guy in my lifetime! *****usually those have to be class action; it may still be possible, especially if you want to rabble-rouse others toward it. That's how class action starts, on finds another, two find ten, ten find twenty, twenty find 100, and so on. Takes too long and too much money would be lost. So folks take heed. Guest guest
Jo, I'm sorry you had such a rotten day. The GOOD news is.....you went from a 24W to a 14P Congrats! Good things will come your way :-) It is a lot easier to be accepted at a " normal weight " than being discriminated against for obesity....Best wishes to you, Barb B. > So folks take heed. Geez............ To show you how naive I am, I thought a bookkeeper can always get a job no matter what age. I believed it because morbid obesity never held me back so why should age. Even the employment agencies won't touch me. Fay Bayuk
