Dear group,

I am such a choco-holic that if I don't like it after July 12th I will

be beyond shocked. My friends all said they'll believe it when they see

it and I must admit I agree with all of them. Beloeve me this will be

quite a revelation.

I have a question?????? Is there a window of time that we have to lose

the weight and why, or will it continue forever until we reach our goal

weight? Susie Gordon

Wow. I am in the loop. Thank you for your responses and encouraging words. I

know rationally that there is no fix for this horrible illness....but my heart

and soul cry out for one. Recognizing and coming to grips with my impotence and

inability to " fix " this for my 73year old dad has been a challenge. In the

absence of a solution, I have focused my energy on my dad's care. He has the

following symptoms: difficulty speaking - slurred speech and difficulty

swallowing, absolutely no balance whilst standing/walking and some slight

swaying when he sits. His hands are just beginning to shake as he tries to eat

and drink. He used to have problems with constipation but a regimen of healthy

food coupled with a daily dose of prunes has helped him. He also needs to

urinate constantly although thus far he has not had infections. He was

diagnosed 3 years ago and we have tried every possible avenue seeking a cure.

Now that we have come to accept that there is none, we are

trying to make the best of a bad situation. My father lives alone - my parents

are divorced. I am the only caregiver he has...he has no friends...well in

truth, one pseudo friend. My brother, who lives right next door to him, cannot

be bothered with helping at all....what a contemptible human he has revealed

himself to be....I have hired someone to take care of my father while I work and

travel...she is great although frightfully expensive. Still, for my peace of

mind, this is the only solution to date. My father continues to work part time

at his own business...it is his raison d'etre. He gets up and works a bit from

home...and is happy in those moments ( and I exist for seeing him smile).

Having no friends or family to speak of, he has always rejected relationships

(treated me with indifference growing up). Now he has recognized that by

isolating himself from people he is left with no support network at all. He

literally has no one to speak with about how he feels

and about his disease. I invite anyone who wishes to reach out to ring him

directly...or if calls are expensive, then to send me your number via email so I

can patch you through my office to him....I am at work from 7 am till 7pm

usually. My email address is simone.seth@... and should you wish to ring up,

my mobile is .

I find it very helpful to ready these daily digests. I am going to try and get

my (very very stubborn) dad to learn how to use a laptop so that he can perhaps

connect to you all via this medium. If he rejects this notion (as he does all

others), then I implore people to try and reach him through other means. I am

committed to trying to make him as happy as I can. I am exceptionally tired

just now and will stop writing....I have to get to work.....but I am grateful

for the reaching out that folks have done to me. I have felt very angry because

of the paucity of information available for people like me. Oh by the way, the

database idea was just to try and get a list of symptoms together so that we

have a little fact sheet for newbies like me....wish I was independently

wealthy....I would focus my time and energy on designing solutions and reaching

out to the world....Thanks again everyone for reaching out to me.

Best regards

Simone
